Fencing costume question

I've been really busy up here in Alaska. I even had two full-tiem jobs
at one point.
Anyway, I have a fencing costume question. I am making a padded
leather doublet from an authenticated pattern. (For those of you at
home with thejanet Arnold Patterns of Fashion book, turn to page 72,
and it's #10.) I'd like to make this go as a full outfit (doublet with
sleeves & breeches).
Anyway, there's no documentation for breeches to wear with the doublet
or for sleeves for the doublet. Now, earlier in the book, there is a
picture of a similar doublet, and I could model these sleeves after the
ones in the book. But I'm still stuck on the breeches idea.
Anyone have any suggestions as to where I can turn for help on period
(1595) fencing garb? How about proper period fencing footwear? The
only thing is that I need actual sources. That's what makes it tough.
And if this weren't hard enough, the guy I'm making this for doesn't
want "poofy pants" if at all possible. Like *I* somehow have anything
to do with the fashion trends of the late 1500's!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Historical Armed Combat Association (HACA) site has some
downloadable historical manuals with pictures.

You could also try the SCA ng...or the local group near you, or the Arts
and Sciences person at the kingdom level where you are (or whoever is in
charge of fencing for that matter). I *know* I saw this topic go by
recently in one of the mailing lists I belong to, but can't for the life
of me remember which of 3 appropriate ones it might have been.

Since the gentleman in questiopn does not want to wear "poofy pants", I
would suggest a pair of Venetian breeches. These are the ones that are
somewhat gathered at the waist, not at all at the knee. They can be trimmed
elaborately, or not at all, as you choose. It would also be easy to put
padding inside them for safety.
Another cool thing about them is that, since they are knee length, they can
be worn with over the knee socks or with high boots, instead of tights.
