Semi-OT, hanging a sword on a wall.

This is a little OT, but this is probably the best place to ask..
I want to hang a sword on the wall, but I'm not sure what would be
the best way to do it. I could drive two screws in the wall, and hang
the sword point down, bit since it's a scimitar I don't think I'll
like the way it looks. I could lay it on screws horizontially, but
I don't think it's that safe. I could drill a few holes in the
blade, and bolt it to the wall, but then I wont be able to do much
with it later. I have seen sword 'staples' to mount them on a
wall, but I have no idea where to get them.
Any help would be appreciated.

definitely not an authority here, but, I'll give it a shot...
I would make a 'mounting board', a bit longer than the sword, and set it up
for mounting at the rear (a wire works good, like picture frames)
for mounting the sword, I would think you could lay the blade out and drive
small headed screws around the blade, close enough to hold it securely, but
not so close as to damage it. slightly larger screws could/would hold the
hilt down.
another option would be to affix a small piece of leather to the board, that
would hold in the tip of the blade, and use wire or screws or whatnot to
hold the hilt, and keep the end into the leather...hmm...imagine that the
leather is a 'mini-scabbard' for the sword, only covering the end inch or
two, and to match, put another piece of leather right up near the hilt.

Or, you could just purchase pre-made sword hangers or a wall-mountable sword
rack. Chivalry Sports http://www.renstore.com sells both, and I'm sure
they're available elsewhere as well.
Incidentally, if you decide to mount the sword horizontally, and since it's
a scimitar (which I surmise is single-edged), I believe it's traditional to
mount it with the sharpened edge facing upward, to "honour the blade."

stores. The one I use have a U shaped profile. stick out only about
3/4" and are about that deep. My scimitars are mounted side-by-side
each curving to the inside around one of my daggers. And the double
hooks can work well for daggers. Screws do work but I tended to knock
stuff off the wall alot. The sword hooks are nice but I've never found
a a design I really like and am willing to spend the money on to hang
all of my weapons.

Swing by a music store, and buy guitar-hangers. They've got clips on the
front edge that will keep you from accidentally knocking the blades off the
walls, and the rubber fork will be easier on the crossguard than a metal
hook would be.

Good suggestions by all for places to go, and ways to do it. I highly agree
with the mounting board idea, and by-the-sword is a good place to get
brackets.
Also, with a weapon as big as a scimitar, you could also think about doing a
diagonal hanging ... I've got a broadsword over my fireplace hanging
straight down, and I've got a rapier over my stereo hanging diagonally. The
rapier is longer, and I have less wall height due to the furniture, but the
diagonal angle works well.

My father used to find appropriate balance points and screw in door
stoppers (the brass things about four inches long with a wood screw at
one end and a rubber bumper at the other). None of his swords had
basket hilts, but I suppose a scimitar wouldn't, either.

In long overall. The "business end" is about 3/4 In plenty of meat for the
sword to rest on. And the L shape wont let the sword fall out. I hung my
sword above my front door, and from about 10 ft away you can not see the
