I've just seen an excellent investigative TV program about the possible
biological causes of various forms of violence. It did not ignore the
social aspect, but considered the biological aspect to have more importance
thatn is usually given to it.
Testosterone levels were not considered to be directly linked to aggresive
behaviour, although there do seem to be some links.
Far more important seems to be the degree to which the limbic system is
controlled by the cortex. Basically, the limbic system is what controls
primitive and powerful drives and emotions, such as anger, lust, etc. When
this overrides the control by the higher areas of the brain ('civilised'
behavioiur), in a way analogous to an epileptic fit, the person affected
becomes a primitive predatory animal, with no control at all. In esence,
what could be considered their 'self', including memory, personality,
concience, rules of civilised behaviour, etc, ceases to exist. A historical
version is the 'beserkers' used as shock troops in some cultures. Various
drugs create these set of circumstances, leading to impulsive, usually
violent, behaviour. The sufferer 'returns' after a period of time, when
what they've done hits them. They often show extreme remorse, no memory of
the incident, and are incapable of explaining why it occured. PET scans of
typical violent offenders in this category show a markedly lower degree of
activity in the frontal areas of the brain, as the limbic system takes over.
There are a variety of causes. Serotonin levels seem to be linked. Head
injuries or other problems (tumours, strokes, some forms of drug use by
mother during pregnancy, etc) can also be a cause. There is often a
relatively simple cure. One example given was a man who suffered a tumour
that caused impulsively violent behaviour. After the correct diagnosis and
treatment, he was put on a drug usually used to treat epilepsy. In his own
words..."I knew I was back. The relief was beyond words".
Violence can also be internalised. People cutting themselves, hitting
themselves and (in extremes) killing themselves are examples. One study
showed greatly lower serotonin levels in suicides, and also in impulsive
murderers.
It is also linked to Attention Defiency Disorder, probably in that what
causes ADD can also cause impulsively violent behaviour.
Low self esteem also has an effect, as this lowers serotonin levels.
I have a copy of the program on video (UK VHS), if anyone is interested.
It's absolutely fascinating, and offers a real chance to effectively tackle
violent crime, if used in conjunction with social solutions.

I don't see why you are so upset that this post is here. Biological
reasons for criminal tendencies is completely relevant to law
enforcement.
During my studies in criminal law I specialized for a while in this area.
I focused on a disease called 47 xxy, a genetic malformation where a male
recieved two male genetic files instead of the usual one. (Most men are
46 xy). While not a death sentence to kill, an unusual amount of serial
killers- including Arthur J. Shawcross of NY in 1972. This genetic
information aided the police officers and forensic scientists in their
investigation and subsequent conviction. (admittedly, genetic causes of
violence is still a debated subject.)
I take offense to your lunatic rantings about women and insults to

xyy. As a double-y guy myself, I can testify that we are not all rapists
and killers. There are some interesting physical symptoms, including
acne, above average height, and enlarged extremities, which might be a
hint as to people around you who might also be XYY, though it would take a
sex-chromatin test to be positive.
