Firstly, I have to apologise for posting in English.. I haven't actually
started learning the language just yet. My question is... are there any
esperanto radio stations that i can pick up on an international short-wave
radio receiver?

Thank you

Lee Lavery

Radio Poland I have heard. I believe China Radio International and
Vatican Radio are also still broadcasting in Esperanto. ORF and R
Havana Cuba seem to have stopped?

I think we have to address Lee's original question, which referred to a short-wave radio receiver rather than the net.

Radio Poland and China Radio International (formerly Radio Beijing) continue to have daily broadcasts in Esperanto. Several other stations broadcast once or twice a week. There are schedules with wavelengths for these stations, but I don't have them handy (at the ELNA office, we received Vatican Radio's new schedule last Friday). Some also broadcast over the internet, which is what MJRay was talking about.

ORF (Austrian International Radio) has stopped their broadcasts in Esperanto, presumably for financial reasons. I don't actually understand their logic, since their own figures showed that listener reaction to their Esperanto broadcasts was higher than that for their English and French broadcasts combined. (This is not to argue that more people listened to the Esperanto broadcasts, only that those who tuned in to the Esperanto broadcasts were significantly more likely to pay attention, understand, and react.) Incidentally, Radio Poland's statistics show the same phenomenon. Radio Beijing has not, to my knowledge, published its listener reaction statistics; perhaps there aren't any. (I tend to fall asleep during their half-hour programs.)

Radio Havana continues to broadcast in Esperanto; its internet broadcasts have disappeared, I would presume, because ORF was hosting them. One may hope that they'll find another way of putting their broadcasts on the internet.

You can get up-to-date information from AERA (Amikaro de Esperanto en Radio) at http://www.osiek.org/aera/ There's a good collection of programs from Radio Poland in RealAudio format at Anton Oberndorfer's site: http://gast.radio-o.at/antobern/retradio/index.html

I think we have to address Lee's original question, which referred to a short-wave radio receiver rather than the net.

Radio Poland and China Radio International (formerly Radio Beijing) continue to have daily broadcasts in Esperanto. Several other stations broadcast once or twice a week.
Radio Vatikana broadcasts three times a week, with additional broadcasts on holidays, especially during the upcoming Holy Week. Their website gives links for those broadcasts. Radio Romo broadcasts once a week, Saturday, at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT--'Universala Tempo Kunordigita, UTC), website with link. Those broadcasts are both available on the internet in RealAudio and by shortwave in Europe (elsewhere for a sensitive receiver). The website of Anton Oberndorfer has links to links and times and frequencies. AERA has not been updated for over a year.

Radio Havano supposedly broadcasts in short wave at five different times on Sundays, but they have misannounced their frequencies for over a decade. I have not received a clear short wave broadcast from any frequency I can find in New York City for many months. The Radio Cuba International website has more reliable frequencies. Their live  broadcast is available over the internet for Windows Media once a week (not once a day in RealAudio, as Oberndorfer states). The RealAudio archive of their broadcasts is no longer available, as far as I know.

There are schedules with wavelengths for these stations, but I don't have them handy (at the ELNA office, we received Vatican Radio's new schedule last Friday). Some also broadcast over the internet, which is what MJRay was talking about.

See above and Oberndorfer.

Radio Pollando has the only website with an extensive archive. The internet link via WRN is quite useful, as it is an archive daily broadcast updated daily on that single link. Radio CXinio also archives on its website and sends daily internet broadcasts, but each day of the week has a separate link. You can learn to update the link for each day of the week, but you need to keep one link going for each day of the week; otherwise you will have to call up the most recent broadcasts from their website. See Oberndorfer for website links.

Up-to-date? AERA still lists the ORF broadcasts, I think.

Du fojojn, mi povis auxdi la _anglan_ elsendon de Radio Havano Kubo gxis
07.00 cxiufoje. Post la fino de la anglaj elsendoj, la elsendo de Radio
Nederlando komencigxis samfrekventse kaj superreginte.
