Many years ago Prince Charles spoke at a tribute to the late Irish comedian,
writer and actor Spike Milligan.

Milligan was the first person to make the "very serious about his work"
Charlton Heston (as Cardinal Richelieux) giggle in a scene he shared with
Milligan in 'The Three Musketeers'. Heston kept giggling, apologised and
said it had never happened to him before! Milligan played M. Bonacieux
married to Constance (Raquel Welch)!

At the tribute, Prince Charles was the last of a group of friends to give a
glowing speech saying how as a child HRH had loved Spike in 'The Goons' on
BBC Radio and on and on. Spike appeared on stage to a standing ovation,
walked over to the mike and said, "Grovelling little bastard!" and everyone,
Prince Charles included, roared with laughter.

Next day Prince Charles telegrammed Milligan with the message, "Start
grovelling!".
