Since I last posted, I heard someone on the radio refer to the Cuyuga
or Cuyoga river in Pennslvania, I thought, but it seems to be in Ohio.
It seems to run through Cleveland, and it seems to have been polluted.
I still don't know if it is different from the Cuyahoga or just
another name for it.

There were about 160 hits including the Cuyoga County Fair. I can
imagine more than one spelling for a river, but surely they would all
spell the county the same way. Okay, 16 hits for "Cuyoga County" and
499,000 for "Cuyahoga County" But at least I'm not the only one who
pronounces it as I do, for the last 50 years.

"Any surface moisture/dampness will be dried off (Ive never heard of
water burning, except in the polluted Cuyoga River)."

I'm not sure what the question is. There is a Lake Cayuga and a
Cayuga County in New York state, pronounced ky-YOO-ga. There
doesn't seem to be an actual Cayuga River, but Cornell
University's school song used to begin "High above Cayuga's
waters ..." Probably still does, but I'm not going to look it up.

The river through Cleveland is the Cuyahoga River, pronounced
ky-yah-HO-ga. And it did, indeed, once catch fire in the downtown
area of Cleveland. That area along the river was highly
industrialized and a lot of flammable pollutants like oils
managed to end up floating on the river and caught fire.

The river has since been cleaned up as the industry left, to the
detriment of Cleveland's economy. The river always was pretty
attractive further upstream out in the country.

Why do you find it necessary to lay down the law like this?

What does that mean? Are you alluding to the great variety of Englishes
in England?
