Why is a "K" used for a strikeout in baseball?

You see this in every pitchers stats. They use a "K as the
abbreviation/symbol for the number of stikeouts.

Anyone know why?

Because it's easier than writing stri"K"e in the limited space of a score
card.

Each possible outcome of an at-bat has an abbreviation. "S" was already in
use.

Strike has a K in it, but other than that, it's arbitrary.
