A NG for the English language is no place to seek help
translating Chinese characters. Be advised that the
majority of AEU users may not be configured even to see
Chinese characters.

Gossip is usually meaning chat, or voices.

Magical spells and curses doesn't make much sense. You only need to

In Chinese astrology and mythology, "Eight ideogram" can mean eight
directions. There are other meanings, of course.

I don't know any Chinese I just got that from an on-line translator.

BTW: I am now reading the 1000 year old novel "Tale of Genji"

Though it is a Japanese story, it was highly regarded to the Japanese
ruling class to know Chinese poetry.
