Calcium carbonate or CaCO3, is a raw material which abounds plentifully in nature. Plants and animals absorb calcium carbonate through water, after which it is used to build their shells and skeletons. Calcium carbonate is an indispensable product of mankind. Due to their widespread availability, calcium carbonate has been widely used as a raw material for over 5000 years. The pyramids were built by the Egyptians using limestone, a crystalline form of the mineral. There are numerous uses of calcium carbonate industrially, keeping in mind their purity, thickness, whiteness and homogeneity. Intensive treatment of the raw material is however required, a process called recarbonization before it can be used industrially.
