"ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico-based energy technology company
announced plans Wednesday to develop in southern New Mexico what it calls
the world's first utility-scale, zero-emissions hydrogen power plant.
Jetstream Wind Inc. officials said the $219 million plant would use
electricity from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources to separate
water into hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen would then be burned in a
turbine - similar to those used by natural gas-fired power plants - to
generate enough electricity to power about 6,000 homes and businesses.
The 10-megwatt plant also would be capable of capturing and storing oxygen
in liquid and gaseous forms for use in the medical field or other secondary
markets.
"Basically, it's a scaled-up model of eighth-grade science," Jetstream Wind
CEO Henry Herman said. "In eighth grade we took DC batteries, ran cables
into water and produced hydrogen gas. All we're doing is utilizing that on a
much larger scale.""

Apparently neither the folks at Jetstream Wind Inc. nor the reporters
covering this story have ever heard of the laws of thermodynamics. So I dug
a bit deeper. Here's a couple of links on Mr. Herman:

Here's the blog for their spokesperson Ornesha de Paoli:

Apparently, even though they're about ready to spend nearly half a
billion dollars on renewable energy/hydrogen power planets, consulting for
them doesn't pay very well. I found this on their consultant Richard Knouse:
http://www.santafe.com/articles/giving-more And then there's this:
http://www.rapidmodelsnm.com/contact.html All three of these guys are also
involved in Jetstream Wind Inc. The BS gets even deeper, but this should
give you the general idea.
Sooooooo, other than the obvious, can anyone tell me anything about
this company. I've posted questions to their Jetstream Initiative website,
but they just delete them without answering.

Otch, what a coincidence! I am sitting here making a YouTube video
about this bullshit. Thank you for the links: I will read the web
pages.
The "company" claims it will spend at least $219,000,000 on the
project, to provide electricity to 6,000 houses and liquid oxygen
to medical facilities. "They" (actually "he") also claims the
plant will be "zero-emissions." It is all, of course, a crock of
shit; the project will never be built and not so much as a
watt-minute will be generated. The whole claim is so uetterly
asinine and stupid, it is a wonder that even "investors" (i.e.,
victims) in New Mexico can be stupid enough to fall for it.
Basically the "company" is claiming that for every 100 cents
"they" spend, "they" will happily get back about 14 cents, if
"they" are lucky. (Hell, I wish someone would make that deal with
me.) "They" will do this by (1) turning kinetic and solar energy
into electricity, then (2) turning electricity into oxygen and
hydrogen, then (3) turning hydrogen into kinetic energy, then (4)
turn kinetic energy into electricity.
My rough estimates regarding energy losses in the process are 18%
loss for #1, 65% loss for #2 (best case, cold temerature process),
40% loss for #3, and 18% loss for #4. If I did the math correctly,
"they" will get 141 watts for every 1000 watts they process.
Why doesn't the clown just sell ocean-front property in New
Mexico? It makes just as much sense.

In looking at #2 I found a process developed by Shell that claimed 85%
effeciency in the laboratory. Even if it's practical it's unlikely they
would get close to that in actual use. Even if they could it wouldn't make
this idea work. You left out the energy lost compressing the hydgrogen. They
claim they're going to store the hydrogen in underground bunkers using
composite materials. That alone would be a major break through. From what I
read no one has come up with a practical cost effective method to store
large amounts of hydrogen.

The whole thing is very strange. I've posted more information on my
"home" group for laughs--rec.outdoors.rv-travel--under Wind energy - some
deep BS [OT]. So far I haven't found anything to indicate that there are any
investors. Naturally, I'm assuming that getting other people's money to play
with is the motive behind this; but, they're strangely difficult to contact
and even these idiots have to realize their story can't stand up to any sane
examination.
This interview is actually conducted by company spokesperson Ornesha de
Paoli:

Here's another story about Mr. Herman from his hometown newspaper:
http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Local%20News/Pueblo_plans_wind_farm
If you follow the links here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2333958/resume
You find another of Mr. Herman's companies: http://quillandinc.com/ As is
usual for this guy you find some of the same people here that are involved
in Jetstream Wind. The President is the registered agent for the Jetstream
Wind incorporation.
http://www.nmprc.state.nm.us/cgi-bin/prcdtl.cgi?4003356+JETSTREAM+WIND+INC
If you look at the street view of her address under Google maps it's good
for a laugh. I'm not sure if I found Mr. Herman's home, but if I did it's
only slightly better.
I've made a few phone calls. The little newspaper in Truth or
Consequences was not invited to the claimed ground breaking ceremony and had
no knowlege of this event actually happening. So far, other than
someone--likely Ornesha--inviting them to the press conference in
Albuquerque, all they've heard is rumors. The Construction Industries
Division, which issues building permits there has never heard of Jetstream
Wind.
It's nice to hear that there's at least one other person who looked at
this story and figured it was nuts. I look forward to seeing your video.

I can't see why they don't just buy some PV panels & cut out all the
BS.
Clearly con-men.
This Sunday I am meeting with Richarson's office to discuss this
scam and another one. Neither Richardson nor his office knows
anythging about this Jetstream Wind project; I already talked with
the mayor of Truth or Consequences and she knows nothing about it
either. My goal in the Sunday meeting is to ask for the state AG
to look into the claims.

It's the same story on Molokai. Their claimed wind energy/hydrogen
plant there would provide more power than the island uses and no one in the
industry has heard anything from them.
http://www.themolokaidispatch.com/?q=node/3267 I chatted a bit with one of
the Molokai Dispatch's reporters. He said they see a lot of "blue sky"
projects there. They were pretty blase about the whole thing.
I've counted at least 8 people involved in Jetstream Wind Inc. None of
them appear to know much of anything about anything. OTOH it's entirely
possible that they haven't broken any laws. If they're trying to make money
on the thing it's a very clumsy effort.
