Not at all true. He sang this song many times in concert in '77, and probably
also in '76. I'm sure our bootleg experts can help us out with those details.

He sometimes sung it twice in the same concert!!! Double torture!!

Maaan I hate that song and it's semi operatic tuneless bellowing, it's
plodding vulgar heavy handed arrangement. He loved this sort of stuff in
later years, proving that he 'so' lost the musical plot post '73. Getting
bloody JD Summner belching his way through the gigs, and that bloody
Sherrill Neilson. . . don't get me started!

If you're real lucky, you can find a '76 soundboard that contains

1) Hurt (with reprise), oh my poor ears!
2) Why Me Lord (with sycophantic 'laughter' from JD)
3) An ear splitting 'Heavenly Father' by Kathy Westmoreland
4) A 12 minute 'I Gotta Woman' with hilarious JD 'plane' noises
5) And to top it all off, a version of 'Mystery Train' that incorporates a
trombone making. . . . .
. . . A TRAIN NOISE!!!! Inspired!

The 1955 Elvis would have hung his head & cried.

Harv, while I don't dislike "Hurt", I do have to agree with you in a big way
about your list and observation on his career post'73. It is too bad he never
took a couple of years off, because he seemed either burnt out or bored.

God, how I HATE Sherrill Neilson! What the hell he ever saw in that egotistical
bastard I'll never know?

It's kind of heartbreaking to see the former King wearing silly hats,
indulging himself with his backing singers and destroying his hits with
cheesy speeded up arrangements as he did 74-77.
Listen to any post 73 'Love Me'. After the line 'treat me mean & cruel, but
Love Me' JD Summner gives it the big BUM BUM BUM BUM! - out of time, out of
tune, every FUCKING TIME! It's fucking HORRIBLE!
Listen to the 56 version, sexy, passionate and yearning. A wonderful work.
There's just no comparison.

Elvis seemed to have lost his sense of subtlety after 73, he just liked the
highest and lowest singers, the fastest drummers, the busiest bass players
etc. . .

Sinatra grew more discerning in his forties, and made some of his finest
music. Elvis was just coasting and it's a hell of a shame.

I think it was boredom and burnout, I'm sure that Frankdidn't do as many shows
in a short period of time That Elvid did.

I remember being disappointed on the Memphis live album that he did a medly of
his hits really sped up, instead of doing them one at a time at regular speed.I
sure as hell didn't want to hear Sherrill Neilson sing O Sole Mio in his wussy
ass voice.

A few years ago I saw Johnny Cash in London, halfway through the set he sent
the drummer offstage and performed a few Sun hits with just slap bass &
guitar. I'd have loved to see Elvis do this in the seventies, instead of
giving every song the orchestra & three backing groups deal.

Amazingly, there are some fans that consider 70s versions of some fifties
hits superior!!
Perhaps only the 72 'Lawdy' comes close.

Lawdy is there, I've heard some inspired Heartbreak Hotels.
And the early incarnations of Mystery Train rocked. (my favorite is the one on

Perhaps the 'crowning' moment of Elvis in Concert is the new and improved

If you are indeed a Marine, your posts are a disgrace to our United States
Marine Corps.

As I understand, the Marines have a code of conduct that remains in effect
regardless of whether a soldier is in uniform or on their own time.

UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS
Marine Corps University
User's Guide to Marine Corps Values
MARINE CORPS CORE VALUES
1. Introduction. The 30th Commandant, General Carl E. Mundy,
Jr. wrote in a 1992 memorandum that

"Marines are held to the
highest standards of personal conduct. The Nation expects that
from us. The personal and professional conduct, decency,
integrity, and accountability of Marines must be beyond reproach.
This is a non-negotiable principle."

What General Mundy was
talking about are the Values that Marines have displayed for over
200 years in peacetime and combat.

These Values of HONOR,
COURAGE, and COMMITMENT were further defined by him in his
"Statement on Core Values of United States Marines."

Marines bring with them when they enter the Corps their own
set of Core Values. Personal Core Values are instilled in
Marines by their parents, families, religious beliefs, schools,
peers, and other influences upon their lives. These individual
sets of values may be strong or they may be weak. Regardless of
background, every Marine should understand that being a Marine
entails embracing and adhering to Marine Corps Core Values.

The 31st Commandant, General Charles C. Krulak said in July
1996 that "Our challenge is to be a Corps of men and women who
consistently represent the highest moral character in and out of
uniform. Character creates a foundation of which successful
military units are built. From this foundation, Honor, Courage,
and Commitment will always be evident, providing the perfect
description of a United States Marine."

Forgive me Angeline, Heckyl here,
In spite of everything going on in the World and upon his post, shown above ,
my friend the Marine has received nothing but smart ass remarks about Marines,
The US, the state of our defense and so on.
When he's busy breaking balls on a dope like Ivor or Lisa, he is being candid
about the stupidity he sees here on the board concerning Elvis.
And the stupidity floweth over, you have to admit.
Very few among us, stay out of the frey. That's part of the lure of message
boards, break some balls, one-up someone, drum out the losers and get info on
whatever subject the Ng covers.
Show me one that differs.
You even enjoy the one-upsmanship, you took the time to fish up and find the US
Marine code of conduct to toss in my friend's face like you're on to something.
You're not.
This guy ENLISTED in the front line of America's defense and did his part, he
is fully aware of the Marine code of conduct. The losers we fuck with on AEK,
are way beneath the Marine code of conduct in their personal E behavior, as an
Elvis fan- he's just layin it out like all the rest of you.

You obviously want some of the non sense you posted about not liking the other
night, 'cause you jumped into the frey by thinking you're gonna show him with
your post.
The only thing you know about being a Marine is what you read about on your
screen and see in the movies. Me too, so I wouldn't really go there- but that's
my opinion.
I think you owe him an apology.

The above is NO OFFICIAL ORDER. It was an opinion stated by that particular
Commandant. Even so I have the right to speak just like everyone else, perhaps
more because it was earned in combat. You know nothing of the Marines or the
Military in general. You sleep in your soft bed at night, and awake in the
morning able to worship at the church of your choosing. All the things are
protected for you by the sacrifices of countless veterans like myself, some of
who were friends of mine lost in Beirut when the barracks was bombed.

So don't tell me about the Marines, I was there, I served and lost buddies.

I agree - part of the reason that we all tune in to this group is to see
what's going on with these idiots today... it's kinda like a warped little
family that we can all join occasionally, talk a bit of Elvis and then leave
to go back to our actual normal/warped families.

I was not meaning to toss anything in your friend's face - and if he wants
to get on a message board and discuss Elvis or any other subject, that's his
right.

On the other hand, if he wants to come to a message board and do nothing but
vent his ugliness and then have the audacity to post that by 'golly he's a
MARINE and we should respect him for it' - that's what I have a problem
with.

Consider this - America is (not technically) at war with Afghanistan at this
time, and our image is especially important right now. The image of our
military is extremely important - the Marines are *supposed* to be our most
elite force... He could have refrained from stating that he was a Marine and
remained anonymous, but having done so he has opened himself up to the
restraints of the code that he has sworn to live.

My opinion really doesn't matter - I'm just another nut posting on a NG.
But his posts are archived on the net, easily accessible to everyone
including his commanding officers (whose opinion DOES matter) and Mr. Dog
should be aware of this.

Boy you are really ignorant. Again I was asked a question, I answered it. Where
the hell do you come in? That code you keep talking about doesn't really
exsist. It was an article written by the Commandant expressing his opinion. I
have no commanding officers as I am retired from active duty, and even if I
wasn't there would be nothing they could do as it is protected speech, just
like your drivel is.

As I said, I dont go for old men and I will never be going to America unless
its for Graceland but that would be the ultimate limit. I would rather
choose not to spend too long in a country run by an illiterate imbreeded
Texas freak!

No offense to All my American frends! America looks to be a fine country but
not until you get back the type of president who doesnt draw attention for
attacks! Long Live Bill Clinton! The greatest President! So he fucked some
bird while married to the major uglore, fair play to him!
