For sale right now on eBay is an Elvis autographed Vegas menu apparently
obtained by Jim Hannaford in 1974. The ad says the autograph is in gold
ink.

Question: did gold and/or silver ink pens exist in 1974? I'm speaking
of the color of the ink, of course. I have seen opinions stating that
ALL Elvis autographs in silver or gold ink are fakes. I do know that
Paul Lichter tried to sell a bunch of gold and silver ink autographs in
his Bonham's auction in 1997....how he did I do not know.

Mr. Hannaford's involvement in this particular piece makes me wonder,
however, as Jim is a well respected and well-known Elvis "expert" and I
doubt he would try to pass off a fake Elvis autograph. I would ask this
to Jim directly but I do not have an e-mail address for him.

Comments, please!!!!!!! Stutz

Stutz,
If you do your homework, you would see that gold ink pens have been
around for over 100 years. Also once curious about the gold ink and
silver ink pens, I asked Al Dvorin about it and he stated he not only saw
Elvis sign in these colors, but Elvis stated how much he hated signing
with them because they always leaked all over him.

Nonetheless.....buyer beware. If you didn't see the item signed in person
be careful. Even Jim Hannaford didn't see the item signed in person.
Most collectors feel that Jim is in cohoots with Ed Bonja in obtaining
these and there has been an unlimited supply of autographs. Elvis died
over 20 years ago, yet these autographs keep rising up in Memphis year
after year after year.....what do you really think???

Thanks for the info. In fact, the ad on eBay does say that Ed Bonja had
something to do with all this. But what?
Who is Ed Bonja?

"...I gotta know..."

Stutz,
Ed Bonja was Elvis' official concert photographer in the 70's....his
uncle is or I should say was Tom Diskin (Col. Parker's right hand man).
Tom Diskin died last year. Now you know how Ed got the job as
photographer......anyway, he is privy to alot of material and letterheads
from the Col.'s office....I am not suggesting any foul play, but need I
say more? Like I said, some feel they are authentic, others say they are
not. You do not want to know my opinion. Buyer beware! :)
