One problem is that somebody cleaned the bathroom soon after Elvis
died.
While I'm here, how many maids worked in Graceland around that time?
What do I think?
I think that Elvis was reading "The Shroud Of Turin" it was a very
popular subject that year.
I wouldn't put a lot into the "Somebody" cleaned the bathroom soon
after Elvis died.
Afterall, this was probably not even permitted for some time, due to
investigative measures.
A lot of gossip and hearsay.
I have no idea how many maids, only that I wasn't one of them..lol
>From what I understand he was reading the shroud of turin. Laryy Geller
had just recently given him this book and he was anxious to read it
according to him. As far as the bathroom goes it was cleaned and so was
the bedroom. The bed was even made. The paramedics commented on this.
There was no real investigation as far as detectives coming in and
collecting evidence and such. So the area wasn't closed off or
anything. So they ahd no real reason to preserve evidence or do an
investigation. Since it appeared there was no foul play. To my
knowledge there was 2-3 maids BUT only 1-2 were there at anygiven time.
No more but sometimes there was only 1.

The paramedics commented on the bed being made? As well as the bathroom
being cleaned...before they took him away!? Do you know how insane this
comment sounds? If paramedics were on hand, they would not be there if
Elvis' was not there to be removed to an ambulance. So are we to vison
someone(?) cleaned everything up, all the way around his body!? Good
Lord!
That would be pretty crazy, but I think what actually happened was that
when the attempts to revive Elvis in the bathroom failed, the
paramedics quickly took his body down to the ambulance, leaving behind
the equipment they had been using to try to shock his heart back to
beating. They returned to Graceland later to not only retrieve that
equipment, but to be nearby (at I believe Joe Esposito's request) in
case Vernon went into shock or had heart problems when he was informed
that Elvis was indeed dead. It was then that they found the bathroom
and bedroom had been cleaned. There is a decent book out about all
that called "The Death Of Elvis."

According to Larry Geller's "If I Can Dream", Geller brought with him a
stack of books for Elvis, including "The Scientific Search for the Face of
Jesus", when arriving in Memphis late night on the 14th. When Geller spoke
with Elvis on the Graceland intercom sometime past one-thirty in the morning
of the 16th they agreed on Larry bringing him the books when he [Elvis] woke
up the next day. About an hour later Geller was reading in bed at the Howard
Johnson's motel when Al Strada called. Elvis wanted the books right away.
Ten minutes later Strada arrived to pick up the books to give to Elvis.
Geller made sure to put "The Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus" (by
Frank O Adams, published 1972) on the top of the stack. According to Geller,
the next day, after Elvis was declared dead, "Charlie, Billy, Al, and David
each approached me to tell me that Elvis died clutching the book I had just
given him, "The Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus".
In "Revelations from the Memphis Mafia", Billy Smith confirm that Elvis was
reading "The Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus" when Smith was washing
and drying Elvis' hair during the early morning hours on the 16th, between
around six-thirty/six forty-five and seven-thirty/seven forty-five. Smith
also says, "If he changed books, he changed after I left because I remember
it well".
In his book "Good Rockin' Tonight", Joe Esposito maintain that when he first
rushed into the bathroom to find Elvis on the floor, the book "The
Scientific Search for the Face of Jesus" was still clutched in his hand".
The investigator for the Shelby County Medical Examiner's office, Dan
Warlick, who arrived at Graceland with his party shortly after Elvis was
pronounced dead, invalidate that it was a book about the Shroud of Turin,
"it was raunchy pornography", Warlick said. Supposedly, the book was lying
open and face-down on the counter when the investigator entered the bathroom
with his party, along with Sam Thompson, Joe Esposito, and Al Strada.
Warlick says he took the time examine the large volume book. It was a
combination of sex and astrology, Warlick said.*
After the inspection, Warlick returned to Elvis' office to talk with Ginger;
"About 8:00 AM, she estimated, Elvis was having trouble sleeping and went to
the bathroom to read. It was a book on psychic energy", she said. Years
later Ginger allegedly identified the book as one entitled "Sex and Psychic
Energy".**
According to Nancy Rooks, in her book "Inside Graceland", it was she, along
with Aunt Delta, who cleaned up the bedroom and bathroom as soon as the
ambulance went for the hospital. Also, according to Rooks, it was she who
answered the phone when Ginger called down, and it was she who was the first
(after Ginger) to enter the bathroom to find Elvis on the floor. Rooks
maintain that Al Strada was walking in through the backdoor when she was
running down the stairs after discovering Elvis. She screamed to him to go
check on Elvis, that he was lying unconscious on his bathroom floor. When
the ambulance left, Aunt Delta explained to Rooks that "we need to get rid
of any medications, needles, and such, just in case Elvis died and the
police showed up to investigate his death. (...) Apparently we didn't do the
best job in the world. Several needles were later found by the
investigators".
* When investigating the bathroom, Warlick took a few pictures of the scene.
I believe those photos was missing for years but that they were later
discovered. Can't remember the details. Perhaps the book is visible on one
of the photos, but whether it is or isn't, we'll probably never get to see
them.
** The only book entitled "Sex and Psychic Energy" that I can find on
Amazon.com is not a large volume, but a smaller volume first published in
1991, see: http://tinyurl.com/yn542t
Personally, I believe Elvis was reading the Shroud of Turin book he just got
from Geller when Billy Smith left him that morning, but I also believe that
he might have changed books after Smith left. This as I can see no reason
for the investigator from the Shelby County Medical Examiner's office to be
lying on this, or any other, matter.

You summed this up perfectly. It's been a long time since I read "The
Death Of Elvis" so I didn't know if I had who the investigator was, was
right. I agree that there really is no reason for Warlick to lie about
the book. I remember him mentioning that the book appeared to be flung
at the counter, knocking over some cologne and toiletry bottles, when
the seizure hit him. I don't remember Warlick mentioning finding the
Shroud book anywhere in the bathroom but that doesn't mean it wasn't.
