As posted before,

I take it most here have read the book "Elvis What Happened?", and thus is
familiar with one of the headline-stories in the book when E (quote from the
back-cover of the book); "charmes a beautiful young fan into joining him -
on a drug binge for two that nearly kills her". The basic story has also
been repeated in other books and must be considered well known, but as far
as I can remember, this is the first time I've read an interview with the
girl involved. I guess it's also the first time I've seen her picture.
I don't think 'enjoy' is the right word, but in any case, here it is;

THE STAR, Oct. 18, 1977
Mystery drug girl in Presley book: I am the one who nearly died in Elvis'
arms.
(Parts of) her story:

A blond waitress revealed this week she was the 18-year old high school girl
who nearly died in Elvis Presley's arms of a drug overdose. Steve Dunleavy
told the girl's story in his best-selling book 'Elvis What Happened?' but
did not use her real name - Page Peterson. (...) ...this week, six years
after it happened she broke her silence. (...)
- "Sonny got us a room at the hotel*, but I stayed with Elvis. Later, I went
with him in his plane to Las Vegas, and another time I stayed with him for
two weeks."
- "I never used drugs at the time and didn't know much about them. One day
he called and asked me up to Palm Springs. That was the time I got into
drugs."
- "When I got there he was at the swimming pool and he seemed pleased to see
me - sort of graceful that I had come. I told him I had this terrible
headache and he said he would give me something."
- "I think it was pills. I don't know what sort of pills and I don't
remember taking more than one, but I guess I did take more, and I don't
remember anything else until I woke up at the hospital."
- "I remember the doctor being very angry at all the drugs that were in me.
Elvis called my mother and they sent a plane to pick her up. I was in
intensive care for almost two weeks."
- "Elvis didn't come to see me, but I didn't mind that. He knew he would be
recognized."
- "Afterwards he told me he had paid out $10.000 to the people that took me
to the hospital so the whole thing could be kept quiet. While I was in the
hospital he sent me a verse from the Bible."
- "I never had any bad feelings towards Elvis and when I got home mother and
I agreed we would not tell anybody. He paid all the bills and everything."
Miss Peterson said she spoke to Elvis twice after she got back.
- "Once, I could not make out what he was saying. He could hardly talk.
Another time he told me Priscilla was going on about the divorce", she said.
Former Presley bodyguard Red West told The STAR: "I am glad that Page
Peterson has come forward".

* The Sahara Hotel, Lake Tahoe. (According to the article, Peterson and her
mother lived near San Francisco, California).

A (1977) picture of Page Peterson: (link do not longer exist - I'll make a
new scan by request)

As you may notice, Peterson's representation of the episode is somewhat
different from what's written in the "bodyguard" book.

What do you all think of "What Happened" anyway? Remember, the book was
written and published prior to Elvis' death. Did Elvis "ask for it" so to
speak, or was it a deceit? What do you all think?
******

About "the girl who nearly died in Elvis' arms" thing, hell, if she was my
daughter... But what's your, that's everyone's, opinion on this episode?

Here she is, picture from the paper as mentioned above,

The same paper also printed a few pictures from E's last show, I made a scan
of those as well.

Wonder if Elvis ever went to bed with a 'minger'?

Perhaps later in the piece, in a moment when his judgement may have been a

About the term "minger", is this a word that's used in AU as well? How about
in the US? In short, was I the only one here that didn't know what a
"minger" meant?

About your q, Blair, if E ever went to bed with..., to quote Mr. Harv, some
"ugly girl amongst low-life teenagers in the UK". The answer is no. If he
went to bed with some ugly low-life teenager somewhere else, I wouldn't
know. And honestly I'm not that interested finding it out either.

My point was, E never went to bed with anybody while in the UK. Period. If
he went to bed with some UK "minger" when in the US I wouldn't know. This
unless Kathy Westmoreland qualify as a "minger" - now does she?

Exactly my thought,
What Elvis considered attractive doesn't mean anything at all, I think
his taste in decor (of Graceland) rather speaks to that.
You guy's have too much time on your hands, considering any ugly
duckling, is found to be beautiful by someone. As well as the opposite
is true, the most beautiful are not always considered to be.
I know people (they must be insane..lol) who think Elvis was a fake.
You take away the dyed hair, the sexy atire, and put him out in the
country in a pair of well worn jeans and a muddy T shirt......*Sigh* I
think I would have found him just as handsome.

I consider Mr. T. to be one of the more thoughtful and intelligent
posters on here, along with Peach, Blair, Richard, Suave, and a few
others. They are the reason I check in every so often, along with the
responses from Bill Burk and Marty.

I'm not exactly a new guy posting here. I've posted occasionally in
the past and post occasionally now when I see something I'd like to
add my two cents to. I'm not interested in being rude to others and
launching personal attacks because I may not always agree with their
views. I have a very high regard and respect for the people I listed
above and their views, so take from that what you will.

'Minger' is a UK expression. I only got it from a tv show and a British
friend.

I think what Suave meant was the term is used to describe "an ugly girl" by
"low-life teenagers".

That is they use the expression, but a 'minger' doesn't have to be a
low-life teen.

However Suave's just being funny, everyone uses that term in the UK, I heard
it on the cop show 'The Bill'!

Real 'Mingers' are a rarer breed than these. It's quite a specific

Courtney Love on a really bad day is a good candidate, as is Shane Macgowan.
Is that him, number 51, on this site?

Now he's a male minger if I ever saw one, however the guys probably slept
with over 1000+ women in his life! Says a lot about women!

Just going on another tangent here, the male music star who claims the
'title' for bedding the most women, is Gene Symonds from Kiss. He claims
2000+ and still counting, the dirty old dog.

It looks like Shane when he was with the Nipple Erectors.

And Courtney Love is not a Minger, she's a Skank. There is a
difference.

>Now he's a male minger if I ever saw one, however the guys probably slept

I don't know, has he got a reputation for womanising? I know a lot of
women in the media love him, but it's more of a 'I wanted to take him
home and look after him' kind of thing. Kirsty MacColl was very taken
with him, but I can't imagine she ever let him get near her naked

He's claimed 4,987, which was probably just a number he plucked out of
thin air for the cameras. No doubt he's had a lot, but he'll be
including blow jobs from groupies.

Bill Wyman documented all his conquests, which probably means he wins
purely in terms of evidence.

I don't know why I'm even arguing about it, it's such a repulsive
thought.

She looked a bit mingerish in a couple of recent photo's, but yeah she's
more the skank type.

You'll have to give us a good example of a famous minger, just so we can get
a grip on the the whole term.

Of course Whiskey abuse and male sexual performance don't really mix, so he
wouldn't be much of a player I don't think.

Just the mention of the the word "evidence" should be enough to send chills
down the spine of that old rotter.

Wyman is almost enough to want rock stars, in their traditional form,
classed as an illegal occupation.

How was the Diana love-in?

I don't want to start a debate on that. When you start throwing names
out, it's only a matter of time before some fan who regularly trawls
the Internet looking for a mention of their hero(ine) comes along and
starts telling me that I must be hideously ugly myself, and that I'm
'only jealous'.

It was a different time. Or something.

I read the Motley Crue autobiography called "The Dirt". In essence,
it's 450 pages of hardcore sleaze, padded out with a few pages of
photographs. I say 'read', but I got half way through and gave up.
It's one of the most annoying books I've ever bought
because....frankly, who cares?

It's not like it's Hammer Of The Gods, where you're reading about a
band who changed music, this is just a load of disease ridden blokes
bragging about the skanky women they've had. So you know, as much as I
find the adventures of Bill Wyman quite revolting, especially the
Mandy Smith era, at least he has a lot of other good stuff going for
him.

>How was the Diana love-in?

You know what? I forgot it was on. I went to the gym in the evening,
and it was showing on one of the TV screens, and that was all I saw of
it all day. It looked appalling, absolutely rank. I saw Joss Stone,
who I used to think had some potential but now I think is a mental
case, and she said something about how the next song was one of
Diana's favourites, and that turned out to be the theme running
through the day from what I can gather. People singing songs that
Diana either loved, or would have loved. Joss murdered "Under
Pressure" by the way.

On the way back in the car I heard Tom Jones singing "Kiss" because
Diana loved that one as well.

I'm so glad I missed it.

Very rarely do I watch a big concert on tv, and become so embarrassed that I
find it differcult to look at the screen.

But thats what happened during the opening act (after Elton, and the hello
speech by the two prince's), by Duran Duran.

They were simply awful, flat and reeking of yesterdays men. I also got the
giggles because they were singing 'Wildboys', and I couldn't help but
remember Live Aid when Le Bon had that vocal malfunction with "...all we
niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiid".

At this stage I felt bad about bagging the concert beforehand, because at
the end of the day I don't like to be a party-pooper, people should have a
good time at these things, and rightly so.

But when Duran Duran performed, I thought 'geez this is going to be
horrific'.

However I think as the magic of night fell (it's amazing how nightfall
changes an atmosphere), the concert became ok to poor, but not the disaster
I first thought it would be.

Status Quo rocked, like usual, it brought back those steller Live Aid
memories! What a song that is.

Infiniteman, you are of course correct, I wasn't being insulting. And thanks

Richard Palmer submitted this idea :

Duran Duran looked older than the Rolling Stones.

Some gossip, someone I know drove Yasmin Le Bon's 4x4 from the Celtic
Manor Resort (Wales) to her London home. She was on a freebie weekend
and was in no fit state to drive so took alternative route home.

She did not tip the person I know 1 penny, what a cheapatoni.

Princess Diana's choice of music was as bad as her choice of men, and
boy did she put it about some.

Will Carling and half the officers mess of the Blues and Royals, and
the Lifeguards !

On Elvis' bedding a minger... how silly. Elvis had great taste in the beauty of women and every woman he ever picked (that I've seen) was beautiful.
I remember the first time I ever saw Priscilla. I went "Gag! Gee Elvis, with all the beautiful women you can have and you picked her?" Then I saw her
without all that makeup. Wow! She's still a babe and it's been how many decades since?

Elvis bedding a minger. That's like asking if you think the White House Chef fixes cheap hot dogs for dinner for the President. Pretty silly
question, I think.
