SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A Northern California teacher has received three years' pay in exchange
for his resignation after he was secretly recorded by a conservative
activist group professing his allegiance to Antifa, which in turn led the
school district to find "clear violations of political activity" inside
his classroom.

KCRA 3 Investigates received documents from Natomas Unified School
District on Tuesday, which detailed the settlement that was reached in
January.

The district agreed to pay Gabriel Gipe $190,000 in exchange for his
resignation from Inderkum High School. The payout to Gipe was taxed and
the school district ended up paying $100,390.90 which was broken up and
issued in two checks.

The story came to light in September of last year when the group published
a heavily edited video of the then history teacher talking about Antifa
and how he hoped to turn his students "into revolutionaries."

A parent whose child was enrolled in Gipe's AP Government class sent KCRA
3 Investigates photos that showed Gipe stamped his student's assignments
with the face of Kim Jong-Un, and also sent us photos of posters from
inside the child's classroom meant to divide students by their political
ideologies.

The district quickly placed Gipe on leave and announced plans to fire him.

Settlement documents show Gipe officially resigned four months later, in
January 2022, in exchange for the payout.

The settlement prevents the district from discussing details of Gipe's
separation with any third party or prospective employers.

Also noted in the document, "The Parties agree not to file any claim,
lawsuit, grievance, complaint or charge in the future that asserts any
claims that are released by this Agreement."

Natomas Unified School District emailed the following statement to KCRA:

"We have put this behind us and have moved forward. What's most important
right now is welcoming our students back to the start of a new school
year."
