Following up another thread on possible sites Degrees Via Examination,
mention of Rikkyo University, Doctor of Philosophy (involves research in
addition to examinations, but not necessarily instruction)
Are there other known options?

I am interested in Phd, Possibility of starting in one year, which would
include. Concentrations in History, Library, Archive and Information Science
as well as some distance learning research. Would want mostly to have the
course of study via distance learning with some residency for short seminars or
project review. Currently have BA from Mid West Univ. and 2/3 finish MA from
City Univ. of NY.

any sugggestions welcome - Adhiratha

I wish! Actually, I adore the idea of a Rikkyo doctorate. Sure, I'd have to
learn Japanese and two other modern languages in order to take the exams, but
I could probably get the examinations proctored through the University of the
South at Sewanee (since they have an exchange program going there) and not
have to hop over to Tokyo so many times. My main complaint about the program,
in practical terms, is that it isn't very well known around here.

It sounds to me like you're almost literally describing the University of
Arizona's doctoral program in Library Science and Information Resources
(http://www.sir.arizona.edu).

Good luck!
