Before you buy.
Very interesting article. I went to the web site. They do have a college
of bid-niz. They must use their MBA grads to administer the school's
business processes. :-P If I owned a business, I may not have exact
numbers at any one time, but I would have recent numbers, and know a few
key ones off the top of my head, such as tuition, # students, # grads.
The school is a perfect example of Caveat Emptor (buyer beware). A quick
look at what is needed to get an undergrad degree from scratch:
Application Fee = $ 90
120 units X $110/unit = $13,200
Graduation Fee = $ 150
TOTAL ---------------> $13,440
This is about half of what it cost me to finish my undergrad at University
of Phoenix (I needed a bit over 50 hours because of distribution), and we
all know that UofP is expensive. Granted- they will most likely say that
a student can complete the degree w/life experience (they do offer credit
that way- even at the doctoral level where a dissertation does not seem to
be a requirement for graduation) so the cost won't be that high. However,
based on the regionally accredited alternatives available, why would
someone pay their money here (that's a rhetorical question)?
Consider their cost with the following "benefits":
1) American Global University does not participate in any student
visa/I-20 programs.
2) (From their own site) If professional licensing is the ultimate goal
of the student, the University strongly recommends the (prospective)
student check with his or her respective state and professional
association for specific institutional and curricular requirements prior
to registration.
3) They are not regionally accredited. They are not DETC accredited.
They are merely "legal."
There is a possibility, though, for a student to get a PhD without paying
tuition. I figure with a school president that can't remember if they
have graduates or how many students they have, all one needs to do is
claim they sent in all their money and stuff, and demand a degree. Worth
a try ;-)
Thanks for the interesting article, Kristin. It livened up my day.

As it happens, I just phoned them last Friday, after a reader told me that
he was told they were "in the accreditation process." What the human being
who answered the phone told me was "Where going through the North Central
Association process."
Sure.
