Some followers tend to be louder and more forceful, while others are quiet and more respectful. Unfortunately the former usually trump the latter, establish a number of things to insure people listen to them more than the others.
IMO most of the leaders who create and / or take over organized religions come from the ranks of those with insecurity issues. IOW, can't stand for any truth different from what they see, or want to see.
I think a common illusion for people looking at religions (and governments, and countries) is to look through the lens of a small minority in power.
In Eckankar circles I think some people are more enthusiastic and vocal. The kind of persons that will meet a new person at the door of an Eckankar center with a brochures in hand, prepared to "tell you" all about Eckankar. Or the kinds of people who hand brochures to people at a University when preconditions for having an Eckankar table there explicitly state NOT to hand anything to anybody! but to let the students pick up any materials if they so choose. Etc.
At the same time, I think there are people in Eckankar and other religions that don't represent the kinds of people who's behaviors are "in your face" or "our way or the highway".
So, IMO, it is an illusion to judge everybody in Eckankar according to the actions of a relative minority. Same with a government, a country, or a race op people. Generalizations can be the worst kinds of prejudice. For example, I've known some very good people in Eckankar. Also some very good people who are no longer members. People who are wise, intelligent, respectful and have a healthy sense of humor.
It's really easy to generalize and label people and things when the only medium for communication is the written word. However, I just want to point out that, IMHO, Eckankar is not ALL bad and it is sometimes necessary to reiterate this. I can see where some people might claim that all things Eckankar are bad, but at the same time I personally don't think it is the truth.
Easier to judge words than people. But people are not words. Neither are people the words of other people.
