I am still attempting to get my new SONY SAS-BS3 system working. The
manuals says that the LED feature should blink once over 10 seconds
even if you aren't receiving a signal. I have tried for hours to
receive a signal but more importantly the LED never flashes. In
addition, just to test something out, I disconnected the cable at the
dish while the TV was on the install screen. The screen then read
something like "error, cable short detected". So I am confused as to
why the LED never blinks and I can't receive any signal. Thanks in
advance for all suggestions!

This happened to me the day before Christmas with a Sony SAS AD4. I had the
same short error and all. Here's what you need to do. Unplug the receiver
for 10 to 15 minutes. Then connect the cable while the unit is unpluged.
The unit should reset its self and your shor at least see a blink every 10
or 20 seconds. Also make sure your connections are not wet as mine were
since it was cold and wet when I went through what you are. Once you get
going it is soooo cool.

Was the receiver in 'Set up antenna' mode while
you were searching for the signal? The led won't
flash unless you are.

One suggestion people keep making is that the cable is defective, but
that is why I gave the example of when I disconnected it and the
signal screen read "short detected". So the cable was functioning to
some extent. Still no LED and no signal. I've tried everything!

Yeah, it was in the mode where it detects signal. The suggestion to
unplug it for 5 minutes and even an hour did not work. I'm beginnning
to think I have a bad cable... any other suggestions?

to
1. get a high quality compass.
2. be sure the arm(mount) of the dish is vertically straight (gotta be right
on the nuts)
3. get the angle and degree numbers from the zip code chart.
4. set the vertical angle on the dish (numbers are on its side)
5. use the compass to set the horzontal degree.(be sure to read the compass
at the dish then about 3 other places around 10-20 feet away from the dish
to get an average.)
6. now, put the sony receiver in test mode, keep all the screws snug but not
tight. when you move it, do it very, very slow. its extreamly senstive. 1
degree can completly loos it.
7. remember, your trying to hit something the size of a volkswagon aroud
23,000 miles away while you and it move at 35,000 miles per hour.

I've read the other responses and don't have too much to add but I did get the
short message once and it was a bad coupler that connected the too lengths of
wire. If possible for an experiment, just use one cable to go between the dish
and receiver. If one is bad, the odds are the other isn't. As someone
mentioned, you have to be in the setup/antenna menu nd the LED will blink
slowly. Make sure the dish is level, set the elevation, and then slowly move
the dish left and right pointed in the correct compass direction. You should
see a rapid blink as the signal is picked up. Once you get something you can
refine it.

I've set up three locations now and it takes me about 15 - 30 minutes to find
the satellite.

Good Luck
