A brief item from the New Zealand TV Guide ...

No female Doctor,says Alex
--------------------------
While many fans have wondered if the Doctor
could ever be played by a woman, Doctor Who
star Alex Kingston says the role should
always be filled by a man. "Women are going
to hate me for this," says Alex, who plays
the Doctor's wife River Song on the series,
"but I do think the Doctor has to be a guy
... I would imagine that, if anything, the
(next) Doctor might be of a different race
then gender." Alex added that she thought
"it would be interesting for River if it
was a woman."

Why? They've got enough superheroes of their own, Wonder Woman,
Supergirl, Red Sonja, Rogue, Mystique. Why not have those played by men?
It wouldn't work just like a female Master doesn't work.

So can we be expecting a Chinese Doctor or an Indian one?

Maybe Batman and Superman could both be Black. How about a Korean
Sherlock Holmes and a Japanese Jane Eyre. There's nothing in the books
saying they weren't White Anglo-Saxons. Storm could be played by a White
male actor. Jesus could be a blond Scandinavian woman to please all the
feminists and Capitan America could be played by a female Native
American. The Incredible Hulk could also be played by a Gorilla.

But she's not met any Doctor's after the 12th unless she escapes from
the Library Computer.

Didn't she talk to 11 post-library though? So she probably had escaped
the Library Computer by then.

If you mean River Song in "The Name of the Doctor", that was a
manifestation of the Library Computer River Song through Madame
Vastra's dream conference.

All of her other appearances were that meeting out of order thing; the
encounter at the Library is still in her future, while it's in The
Doctor's past ... "Spoilers" as they say.
