Lazy Crapaldi wants to do "other work" ... then he shouldn't have
agreed to play the role in a long-running TV series in the first place.
:-\

"Borrowed" from rec.arts.sf.tv ...

Part-time Doctor Who as episodes HALVED
so Peter Capaldi can take on other work
---------------------------------------
Doctor Who will return with half the usual episodes next
year when its star Peter Capaldi is granted leave.

The BBC pushed for more than the regular 12 instalments
but the Time Lord actor wants to do other projects too.

He told bosses working harder was not on, for both
himself and the "exhausted" crew.

"If you did the series all year there'd be casualties
... and one would be its quality," he said.

"There's a point where you can't drive people any
harder."

Capaldi, 57, is to direct a film loosely based on his
time in Glasgow punk band The Dreamboys and two episodes
of the US TV series Veep.

Peter was lead singer and guitarist in The Dreamboys -
which also counted Late, Late Show host Craig Ferguson
among its numbers - while a student at Glasgow School of
Art in the early 80s.

Insiders on Doctor Who have revealed that - as with Matt
Smith - the next series will be reduced significantly to
allow Capaldi the time off he needs.

Next year's reduced run for Doctor Who will be
supplemented by a Christmas special.

But Capaldi has admitted: "Playing the Doctor takes up
so much time. It doesn't leave much room for other
things."

Show boss Steven Moffat stressed that Capaldi is not
quitting the star role, saying: "Peter is going nowhere."

He said the series, which earns the BBC £60million a year
in foreign sales, will continue until at least 2020,
despite a ratings fall this year.

Steven said: "It is definitely going to last five more
years, I've seen the business plan. And I think we can
go past that.

"It's television's own legend. It will just keep going."

This year's run has struggled in the overnight ratings,
launching with 4.6million compared with 6.8million in
2014.

It has since dropped beneath the 4million mark for the
first time.

At least that explains his idiotic obsession with the electric guitar
and behaving like a 60 year old version of Bill & Ted. :-\

Steven Moffat addresses Rumours of Short Series 10

Friday, 06 November, 2015 - Reported by Marcus

Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat, has responded to tabloid rumours
stating that next years series of Doctor Who would be cut down to allow
Peter Capaldi to pursue other projects.

Talking to RadioTimes.com Moffat confirmed that Series 10 of Doctor Who
would consist of 12 episodes plus a Christmas Special.
It’s not being reduced in size. We’re not making fewer episodes. That’s
all complete bunk. I can confirm that absolutely.
The comment came after today's Mirror Newspaper reported that the next
series would consist of only 6 episodes due to Capaldi's work on other
projects, and follows speculation in other papers that the series would
be cut due to Moffat's commitment to the Sherlock series.

Peter Capaldi also addressed rumours of the cut when asked by the BBC
Entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba if the reports of a half season
next year were accurate.
Not as far as I know. That's not what I've been told. That's not what
I'm contracted for.
The actor told The Guardian that he was disappointed by the scheduling
of this years series, with episodes currently following the dancing
series Strictly Come Dancing.
I feel it’s slightly used as a pawn in a Saturday night warfare. I feel
as if it should go out at 7.30pm or around that time.

I see a lot of kids and a lot of families and these families who all
love Doctor Who want to sit down and watch it together. Once you get
past 8.15pm, you’re getting yourself into adult territory and although a
lot of adults really like it, at its heart, it’s designed to do a lot of
entertaining of children as well. So I think it begins to move into a
zone it doesn’t quite belong in.
The timeslot was also addressed by the Showrunner, when asked about
reports of falling viewing figures.
I don’t think 8.25pm is brilliant for Doctor Who. If there’s a slight,
and it’s only a slight, drop off, it’s I think, that’s not where Doctor
Who’s meant to be. Doctor Who’s not designed and built to go out at
8.25pm. It’s for earlier in the evening. We’re doing fine, once you put
the consolidated and then if you do the wicked thing that you’re not
supposed to do of adding on iPlayer as well, we’re doing fine
The transmission date of the series 10 has not been confirmed, with the
possibility that it could be pushed back beyond Autumn 2016. A new
Doctor Who spin off series Class is due to enter production at BBC Wales
next year using capacity currently occupied by the Doctor Who team.

Steven Moffat told Radio Times
I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else. And even if I
did know – which I genuinely don’t – I wouldn’t be allowed to say so as
I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever.

Both the Mirror story and its refutation by Maoofat and Capaldi could be
true. They could film 12 episodes and a Xmas special - and like Matt
Smith's "season 7", show 6 episodes, break, do Xmas, and then the second
6 in the lead up to the following Easter. Would Season 11 then follow
the same Autumn? Who knows, but as we'd already have had 6 episodes in
the year the BBC could claim we'd had our 2017 quota.

The key thing would be to bring DW forward in the schedule, to 6:30 or
7:00. Strictly (or whatever) could follow on from DW more effectively
than DW follows from Strictly.

They could even resume JNT's stunt casting antics of the 80s and thereby
DW could lengthen its title, supplanting the show currently in this
early slot by stealth! Say hello to "Doctor Who: Pointless Celebrities".

PS no, I have no idea how I managed to spell Moffat as Maoofat.

Given that today it has been revealed that the BBC have lost the rights
to The Voice for 2017 in a bidding war with the ITV, I am guessing that
the BBC may have asked Moffat to make 26 episodes for Doctor Who, Series
10 back to back and Capaldi refused to co-operate.

This might imply that series 10 is going to be split between Autumn 2016
and Spring 2017 to bring it back to an earlier time slot designed for
family viewing and fill the gap left by The Voice.

If the US can make series consisting of 26 episodes as standard in only
6 months I don't see why this can't be done here. All they have to do is
make each story a two parter and spend more time on screen at each
location providing more detailed character and plot exposition by giving
the actors more lines. Why does Capaldi have a problem with that?

It's probably a typo ... maybe you think he drinks too much cream and
you meant to type "Moofat". ;-)
