It doesn't really say much (as usual), but this is from the local New
Zealand TV Guide ...

Who would believe it?
---------------------
Caroline Skinner tells Janie Smith how she went from 'Doctor Who'
fan to executive producer of the long-running British sci-fi
series.

When she was a youngster watching 'Doctor Who' with her dad,
Caroline Skinner never dreamed shoe would be involved in making
the show.

"I think like everyone else in the UK, I grew up with it. 'Doctor
Who' is part of your DNA if you're British - or if you're Kiwi,
frankly," she says.

"I used to watch it on the sofa with my dad when I was very
small. It could be that I was slightly too young and slightly
too scared to be watching it.

"But it's such a delight and an honour to be part of making the
show now, something that from age six defined your childhood and
now I'm making it. It's pretty cool."

Caroline joined the sci-fi show as the executive producer in
2011, just in time to make that year's Christmas special and hit
the ground running.

The show, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, had
some big changes in 2012, including the departure of the
Doctor's beloved companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams, played
by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill.

"It's been epic," says Caroline. "It's just a delight and a real
privilege to do it and I think it's been a really exciting year
in terms of what we've been doing with the show and huge in
terms of what the storylines have been.

"Saying farewell to Karen and Arthur's characters, with them
being such a part of what modern 'Doctor Who' is, was an
enormous thing.

"It was sad to see them go, but it was a real pleasure to work
on those episodes. The flipside of that is I've had the great
pleasure of welcoming Jenna-Louise Coleman to the show."
Jenna-Louise plays the new companion of the Doctor (Matt
Smith).

Caroline misses having Karen and Arthur on set because they are
"such fantastic actors" and they all became good friends.

"Karen's energy on set and her feistiness was just something
that was always a joy, and with Arthur, he's such a brilliant
actor with such perfect comic timing.

"I also think those storylines in the farewell were a lovely
part of 'Doctor Who' and you're always going to miss them, but
you're always going to be welcoming change at the same time.

"With the Doctor, it's the same character, but different faces
and different facets, and the companions do very much to define
the essence of the show. From my point of view, that's probably
why it's in its 50th year. The storylines every week can take
you anywhere and everywhere, and keep surprising you. The show
keeps on evolving.

"The professional challenges of doing that are ever-changing
and enormous, but it's a real delight to work with the 'Doctor
Who' team. There's an awful lot of love for the show. People
endlessly go the extra mile to make it as great as it possibly
can be."

She is a little cagier on what is planned to celebrate the
show's anniversary, but says it will be a huge year.

"Even before we get to the anniversary in November, we've got
an enormous number of new episodes which will be Jenna's first
full series with Matt. Every single one of them are those big
blockbuster storylines."

Hmmm ... in the photo she looks a lot like one of the silly farting
Slithereen aliens wearing a wig ... maybe these aren't just "stories"!?
