For Starters -- A Drabble

I started out several days ago simply thinking about how Emma and
the Doctor met. I realized that it's an almost completely blank
canvas, just as Emma herself is. [There's not much revealed about
her beyond her first name, and even that's only in the credits.]

So after going through several permutations in my head, it settled
down as what follows, which even managed to work in a crossover
and this month's characters.

For Starters

When the aliens burst into the restaurant, Emma had found herself hiding
under the same table as the two men they'd been chasing.
"I'm the Doctor," the dashing, handsome one said.
"Emma. What are those things?"
"Sontarans."
"Doctor," the other man said, "I have a cunning and subtle plan."
"So have I, Baldrick, and mine might actually work." The Doctor
reached up on the table and pulled down some breadsticks. "Perfect.
Balders, you distract them while I sneak round and ram these into their
probic vents."
"That'll really work?" Emma asked.
The Doctor smiled. "Wait till you meet the Cybermen."

I thought so. Content too (though the name "Emma" does come out in Doctor
Thirteen's dialog).
