longer without my earning too, not as the family we are - this job allows us

So happy for you. We've been unemployed a few times in our 40 years,
and it's a bitch. And a govt job. the benefits are usually the best
with them.
I had a county job a few years ago, and I loved it, but my boss with
pure evil, and me being a tender hearted soul, juct couldn't hack it.
My blood pressure went up, and my self esteem down, and I got depressed
big time. 2 docs told me I had to quit. I 'prolly' had a lawsuit, but
was too beaten down to pursue it. Biotch can't keep help, wonder why???
They all leave on Tranquelizers!!
But the best 'job is being RETIRED, with enough $$ to enjoy life.
This is the beginning of this life!! Yay for us. No more alarm clocks,
no need to rush around anymore. Hang in there, y'all, you too can
arrive at this place!!
Hope life improves greatly for you and Kathy, and the flex time is
great. I like that concept, never got to try it, but it always sounded
good.

I took grade 9 from a Juliard instructor in NY NY when I lived there in
'67-'68. Whew! that was a long time ago... Keyboards... "Piano" back then...
I should post a pic of my studio rig today for ya...
Mostly Kurzweil and Korg gear, and a couple vintage pieces, Kawai K5 and
Yamaha TX802. I got my software engineering ticket especially to master
MIDI, but it was a little overkill, I think. Now I'm boning up on the
UNIX stuff because they missed it back then, and built in my skills
obsolescence thereby. I knew it was happening at the time but I was
powerless to do anything about it. I'm fixing that now.
Send one out to the BudBurner too! I know he's been grumbling about
scoring the next job as well...

Some is in now and we LOVE IT thanks! Still got 6 waiting to finish yet,
mebbe another week or two. Yields have been quite low indeed so far though,
most likely due to the overcrowding, but the later finishers are looking

tune/maintain and repair them far better than I play them, heheheh...

Kath teaches taditional African Djembe rhythms, and is also a drum circle
facilitator (Google 'Arthur Hull' for more in depth info on that!), I play a
little, but I work on the drums, repair/tune them for people. I have 3 bare
shells here now waiting to be skinned with goat or calf hide, that I will
then sell on. Got the skins here now, just waiting for the weather to
brighten and dry up a bit again - a lot of the job is best done outdoors...

Good on 'ya mate! I hope my time is coming soon, cash has been
holding out due to doing some contract engineering but it's not
constant work. I get hungry in between. Something's gotta give before
the end of August when "unenjoyment" benefits run out.
I still have nightmares of wearing that funky little red hat and

30 years ago this summer, I shared in a joint on hippy hill in GG Park, S.F.
It was made from a paper towel tube, lined with foil and stuffed with about
3 ounces of flowers...
It probly fed 30 of us to the saturation point...

Heheheh, would it surprise you to know then that Kath is a multi first prize
winning preserve maker (only ever took first prizes)? An excellent quilter
and all-round seamstress (she made my weding outfit for a start)? Has
studied horticulture and garden design? Fully qualified aromatherapist and
reflexologist as well as level 3 Reiki? Oh heck there's more too,
heheheheh...
As for me, well, I taught myself the drum repair and tuning stuff after
falling in love with the Djembe, and made myself a small one, including
carving the wooden shell from a log. This is how Kath and I met - I posted a
message to a djembe mailing list asking where I could find an African
goatskin to complete it, and it was Kath that answered... Other stuff, well,
I work on my own bicycles, and my main one I built totally myself from the
frame up, including lacing the wheels up with the spokes which I taught
myself too. I have a little lectronics and electrical knowledge and have
built a few audio amplifiers over the years. I have written a couple of
short stories, and love photography and digital art too... oh hells yeah,
and I'm pretty red hot in the kitchen too, heheheheh... right I'll stop
blowing that trumpet now, heheheh...

Nice one! I don't post often here, I don't have time to get in to the
whole ''community'' thing, but it's grand to see when someone gets
something as important as a steady income sorted out. Congrats. And
flexi time is always nice so you can do the work when it suits you, not
when it suits The Man.
On a slightly different note, have I gathered right in all the other
posts that you're also an occultist and traditional drum repairer? You
kinda remind me of a mate of mine called Martin. Chaosite (or
Chaosist, whatever a Chaos Magician calls himself), intensely
intelligent psychonaut extraordinaire with about 100 music
qualifications under his belt and a former Windows developer. At
least, that's the impression I get of you so I could be far off the
mark.

I used to be an occultist and Chaos Magick was the key to practical magick

Not an occultist really, no! But yes, I do repair/tune/maitain traditional
African djembe drums and similar rope tuned hand drums, yup! Been doing it
for about 3 or so years, self taught.
Just skinned a large djembe shell on Friday, in fact - still has to have the
hair removed and the final tuning done - will do most of that today but the
tuning needs to be done in stages over several days, as it settles down day
by day for the first while and will go out of tune otherwise. Looks like
this one is going to be one fiiiine drum! Should sell for about £160 when it
is done ',;~}~

We were out all day yesterday doing facilitated rums circle workshops at an
Asian Mela festival - it was fantastic! Kath handled the people like the pro
she is and they loved her as always, I kinda shilled for her and helped
things run along smoothly, and all had a wonderful time <G!> We set up at
around 11 a.m. started at about 1 p.m. and finished at 5 p.m. - cheque for
Ł200 in the pocket for that ',;~}~

It was - really bizarre - we hit it off in an instant too, was like we'd
known each other forever already ',;~}~
Funny thing is, it was down to a girl I met by chance in a park while riding
my bike that this started with. Met her and her kid, we got talking, hit it
off and exchanged numbers. We became friends and kinda had a bit of a sex
thing going on for a short while. It was her that introduced me to the
djembe, and I fell in love with them. That's when I decided I was going to
carve and skin on for myself, hence the need for a goatskin, heheheheh...

All my family on my mum's side were gamblers to at least some extent, with
one of my uncles ruining his life several times over by putting thousands
and thousands either down at the bookies or into bandits. The bug just never
got me at all - won't even put £1 in a bandit if I am in the pub. The only
gambling I've ever really done, is betting on myself in a game of pool.

retrospect - how f'n *wrong* could I have been?!?
If I had the time over I'da left that job alone and coped with no money
until a diff. job - I was already drinking *way* too much at this point, but
hells did it get worse quick there!
Ended up having a nervous breakdown/suffering anxiety and panick attacks,
and then leaving...
Kath stayed there for a good while longer, but it was destroying her too and
she had to leave as well and is still suffering the psycho-emotional
consequences.
How things change!
