Sailing in the Bedroom with Ellen

Monday-Tuesday, January 22-23, 2007

1st Dream: I'm at home with Ellen Degeneres, two small girls (maybe
twins, about ten years old) and two beagle-sized dogs I somehow know are
actually two childhood friends, brothers Greg and John. My father is
there, in the kitchen, doing something at the microwave oven.

We go into my bedroom (everyone except my father)-- most of the
furniture is gone, the floor is covered with water and there is a small
sailboat tied up just inside the door. We all climb into the boat and
start sailing across the room, but the water gets very rough and choppy.
The two dogs either jump or fall from the boat into the water. Ellen and
I agree that the situation is dangerous for the two little girls and we
take the boat back to the door and help the girls out and back into the
living room, where we ask my father to look after them.

We go back into the bedroom and the boat, sail to the middle of the
room, where the dogs went in the water. I jump into the water, about
hip-deep, wade around, calling the dogs. I found them and helped them
back into the boat .

=END FIRST DREAM=

2nd Dream: Driving with my father in my old hometown. We stop at a place
around the corner from our old home -- what used to be a gas station and
a convenience store, they've gone out of business, but I see they have
been combined into a combination store and restaurant. I think they may
have a little free advertising newspaper I want to get, so I get out of
the car and help my father out -- he is in a wheelchair.

I wheel Dad into the building -- nobody is there, and I'm not even
certain the place has opened for business yet. The place s very empty,
and we go through into the men's restroom. On a counter in the restroom
is a pile of newspapers; I see a copy of yesterday's newspaper and I'd
like to read it, but I know it must belong to somebody, so I leave it. I
shuffle through the papers and find the free advertising paper I was
looking for and take it.

I ask Dad if he needs to use the restroom while we're there; he doesn't.
I wheel him back out into the front part of the store -- employees are
just starting to show up, and they tell me they're not open, so we
leave.

=END OF SECOND DREAM=

3rd Dream: I watch this dream from an aerial vantage point, as if there's
a camera in the helicopter that's in the dream. A boy is sitting on a
railroad track out in the middle of the woods. He was apparently walking
along the tracks when the helicopter arrived, then he sat down. He sits
very still, but every nce in a while sneaks a look up over hs shoulder
at the hovering chopper

I can hear the helicopter pilot and/or a television news commentator
talking about the situation -- they are concerned that the boy is in
danger on the tracks -- they point out there's a long bridge span behind
him and a curve ahead, speculate that he might be surprised by an
oncoming train and be unable to get off the tracks in time. They are
talking as though the boy is too stupid to get off the tracks if he
heard or saw a train coming, but I understand what's motivating the boy:
he was on a quest for something, and he doesn't want te nosy people in
the helicopter to see where he's going. I wonder why he doesn't just
walk off the tracks into the woods, where the helicopter would not be
able to see him under the trees.

The helicopter camera pans back: they have contacted the authorities,
and a 4-wheel-drive Suburban pulling a trailer with some piece of
equipment is speeding up the path beside the railroad tracks behind the
boy, to "rescue" him. The Suburban can't drive over the railroad bridge,
so it goes through the shallow stream and pulls up just past the boy and
stops.

The boy is up in a flash and running -- the SUV went just past the boy,
apparently assuming he'd keep running in the direction he was originally
headed, but the boy races backward down the tracks. He runs out onto the
bridge, the boy is not quite as fast as the men pursuing him, and I
wonder if he'll make the far end of the bridge and perhaps disappear
into the woods before they catch him.

In the middle of the bridge, the boy suddenly starts climbing down under
the bridge. He swings down and drops into the stream and tries to escape
downriver. But two men in black jump down soon behind him and one grabs
the boy, spins him around and, when the boy tries to pull away, slaps
the boy. The boy responds by taking a swing at the man, and I hear the
commentator remark that the boy has "assaulted the officer". I get angry
at that -- the "officer" hit the boy first and without provocation; the
by was fighting in self-defense, and I wonder if the boy has any idea
who these men are, these men who raced up while he was sitting alone in
the wilderness, minding his own business and tried to grab him. I hope
the boy doesn't get into trouble.

=END OF DREAMS=

Notes: The first dream was just surreal -- I don't know why Ellen
Degeneres appeared in the dream (I don't generally watch her TV shows).
I have no idea at all who the two little girls were -- they were dressed
in identical or at least very similar dresses, which is why I think they
may have been twins; the girls didn't say anything, just stood next to
one another. And I have no idea about the two brothers turned into dogs
in the dream, either -- these brothers weren't friends of mine, they had
a younger brother who was a couple of years older than me I sometimes
played with, but we weren't close friends either and I haven't seen any
of them in 30-plus years.

The only clues I have to the first dream are that it was raining and
very windy in the night, perhaps inspiring the stormy seas of my
bedroom. And at the supermarket yesterday I browsed the magazine rack
and did look at "Wooden Boat" magazine, at a number of photos and plans
for small wood sailboats like the one in the dream.

The second dream I can see some inspirations: I did drive past the
location of the dream yesterday -- the separate gas station and
convenience store were long ago replaced by a combination
gas/convenience store -- I think the place has gone out of business, but
didn't really pay attention. Also, yesterday at lunch, while I was
waiting for my order, I looked at a counter where they usually have a
stack of little freebie newspapers; they were out, but they did have the
day's regular newspaper there, and there was a story I was interested
in, but I didn't take the paper, of course.

No real ideas about the third dream -- I clearly identified/sympathized
with the boy. It was interesting watching the entire dream as if it were
a live news report from a helicopter news camera.

All three dreams were in color -- not vibrant colors, but muted shades.

Comments and interpretations welcome.

Hi Robert,

again I don't think I have a real clue - but if a persons
life circumstances are deteriorating, in Germany one might
say "jemand geht vor die Hunde" or "jemand ist vor die Hunde
gegangen". I wish there were someone near you who can
explain this better than I - I have found the translation
"someone goes to the dogs" or "someone has gone to the
dogs", but I'm honestly not certain if that's the same or if
it tells you anything. Anyway, what I mean is, perhaps
someone you know has mentioned them in a way that could make
one start thinking those brothers are not well at the moment?

I'm afraid that's all from me again...

Ciao!

Heike

PS: Yes, I also think you should keep the dictionary... I
know I would...

Thanks, Heike.

Yes, we have the same phrase in English/American, about someone "going
to the dogs". I drove near the old neighborhood yesterday, but don't
know why these two in particular would turn up in my memory now; nobody
has mentioned anything about them that I can recall -- when I decided
I'd Google them to see if there was anything about them, I realized I
couldn't even remember their last name, except that it began with a "B"
(I looked for them in the local phone book -- not many people with names
beginning with "B", and did finally remember it; the oldest may still be
living in town, but this guy was eight or nine years older than me and I
don't know anything about him).

I finally did do a search on the brothers (once I remembered their
family name), but it's a fairly common name and I can't find anyting
identifiable about them.

Ok, I went to bed last night and discovered that the roof is leaking --
over my bedroom. It was raining lightly all day, no huge storms or high
winds during the day, and seemed to have started leaing only shortly
before I went to bed (judging by the small amount of water and the fact
I'd been in the bedroom an hour before I discovered the leak and it was
fine then).
