ShadoJohn and I were emailing about [Thief] and I really want people to be able to post about the details of locations. The obvious choice to start with is the Inn. So here goes.

[The Red Dragon Inn]

On the eastern edge of Montfort is an inn, famous in the region. You'll recognize it by its red bricks, and by the sign of the red dragon above the wide and welcoming front door. Word has it that an actual dragon used to frequent the inn. But certainly it attracts the most amazing clientele.

The proprietors are Hugh and Judy. If I can dig up more info about them, I'll post more. I think it would be useful for characters to have that detail to interact with them. Fawn is the Ghostly waitress.

Inside, the main room is the common room, with various tables and the bar. Behind that is the kitchen, and then past the kitchen is the fenced yard and garden out back. Downstairs from the kitchen is the winecellar, with an access stairway up outside the inn to the back garden. It's doorway is one of those old-style angled doors. Upstairs from the common room is a stairway to the upper floors where the rooms and suites are for rent, both long and short term.

Hugh and Judy have been in business a long time, and because of Montfort's location on the trade routes, they are able to stock just about every drink from the far reaches. The apparently are famous for their fiery dragonpods, hotter even than the ghost pepper.

On the side of the inn is the stables, which is plenty large enough to accommodate even fairly large unusual steeds.

So welcome! Come

Hugh and Judy are available for all characters to interact with, and you can write basic interactions with them on both your side and their side of the conversations. It was always that way back when they were running the Inn. now that I've written them back in, there's no reason not to go back to that. As a wise writer reminded me, all versions of the Inn can coexist if we ever need to do that.

Fawn is the ghostly waitress of the inn. She's able to pass through locked doors, but also manages to serve the patrons. It'll be interesting to see how that works in practice, and I can't remember how it was handled back in the day. Like Hugh and Judy, she's an Open character for small talk for writers to write both sides of the conversation.

Other characters sometimes help out in the inn to keep the place running and to welcome guests. My character who does that is Vintner of Greenhaven, an elven bard. He's played by me, and would love to welcome other characters to the inn. There are at least one or two other characters who do that. If you'd like to help keep the Inn alive, you can list a character here, and have them help out Hugh and Judy get the Inn going again in [Reunion/Inn/Open].

[The Red Dragon Inn]
Ah yes, that reminds me. The Inn is protected by the most powerful magic wards possible. When it was constructed they were woven into its making. It is virtually indestructible by any means, magic or otherwise. Also, no fighting is allowed inside. Anyone who fights inside is "bubbled" and floats gently above the ground where they can no longer hurt themselves, or anyone else, until calmness returns.

FireHammer Arms

FireHammer Arms is a manufacturer and seller of fine weapons and customized armor with special characteristics. They also sell a limited quantity of magical jewelry and trinkets. All the items they produce are one of a kind with a supreme level of quality rarely seen. Their goods are the dreams of most every adventurer, and highly sought after by the wealthy and discerning.

However, FireHammer Arms is more than a superb smithy, it is a family, unique and rare. Artisans Forge and Sarakim met through their mutual love of their craft and fell in love with one another despite their races and kin having a long and difficult history. With minuscule support, dwarf male married elf female and made their home in a human realm where greater acceptance was found. Together they established FireHammer Arms and began the lengthy process of raising a unique family. The blend of dwarf and elf is commonly called a dwelf; which despite having a common name is a rare mixture, and is seldom a happy crossing. This is not the case for the FireHammer family.

The FireHammer smithy was once a modest sized grain mill. Its rugged walls of flagstone are flourished with flowering vines and ivy. The two granary towers in back have been modified to resemble castle spires, after the industrious dwarf cut windows, constructed balconies and two connecting bridges. Inside the towers, he built spiral staircases, interior walls and floors, converting the large storage silos into a unique and comfortable home for his growing family. On the side of the smithy, the large water wheel continued to turn, but now it powered the forge bellows and pumped water up to the two large copper vats that capped the renovated towers.

The long front wall and the other side contained several large roll-up doors that open to allow access for stock, sunshine, and fresh air. Inside are large bins of ore, spools of wire, stacks of metal bars, and stacks of lumber, each organized by its size and type. Parked on the side sits the large ox-wagon, magicked for function and adorned with the name of their smithy.

Typically Forge FireHammer and his eldest daughter, Magna, could be found in the workshop swinging heavy hammers on an anvil and red-hot billet. Forge resembles the typical dwarven smith, red hair and beard with arms the size of tree trunks. His daughter, however, like all the mixed blood children is something different. She is a lovely lass of eighteen full-figured, and fiery haired, born with an ability to create fire and immune to its heat. The next child is a sixteen-year-old boy named Huard, nicknamed Whack for his love of hitting things, preferably with his fists, but a stick or hammer will do. Next are the twin girls Amber & Ember. Twelve-years-old, the twins are sweet little Mama’s helpers, loving to dress-up and gossiping about boys. Then comes ten-year-old little trouble-making Ash, aka Spark because like his eldest sister he was born with an inherent magic, his is for electricity. Unfortunately, Spark loves to play with is chaotic ability finding nothing more humorous than zapping his older twin sisters, or anyone else not paying attention. Next is hard working Raven, a stoic little girl of seven years. After her comes Snow, a four-year-old boy, the third in the family with an inborn magical ability. His power is sporadic and mostly under control by his magic wielding mother. The youngest of the children is an infant named Sunshine. She is known for smiling and laughing a lot and can frequently be found suckling on her mother’s teat. Sarakim is a beautiful elfess, skilled in magic and dedicated to her family and their business. Like most mothers, she is everywhere, constantly running about tending to the many children, crafting fine decorative work, enchanting, or selling an item.

Daily life in the FireHammer business and home can lovingly be called an organized chaos, full chaos to the uninitiated. This is often the impression one gets approaching FireHammer Arms, the scene is hectic and loud, but everyone is full of joy. The first to greet you are the two white spitz dogs, medium sized with their thick bushy tails curled tightly over their backs. Whether you are a recognized friend or unknown foe you can’t take a step without Thunder or Lightning announcing your presence. Make a threatening gesture and you will feel the bite of their teeth. If you approach FireHammer Arms with illicit intentions you will discover the dogs are only the beginning of the security system.
