It (appears - I can't guarantee and make no representation that this is
true) that whoever registered all the remaining 2-letter domain names
had/has access to the TLD Zone file, meaning they know ALL the domains that
are currently registered, and therefore can find ANY domain they like that
hasn't been registered, and then register it...

THIS IS WHOLLY UNFAIR....
A limited number of other organizations have partial or full Zone file
access too. It's like someone having a map (ie: Zone File) of a treasure
island, and knowing where all the remaining treasure chests are, and the
rest of us (mere mortals and aspiring dotcom millionares) have to rely on
about 1 millionth of a piece of that map (ie: only the dodgy data that WHOIS
engines give us)....

Anyone agree that this is UNFAIR ! UNFAIR ! UNFAIR !

Hmm maybe they do have these files but then again there are ways of
checking multiple domains yourself. I just checked them using my "domain
name finder" script http://www.web-shack.net/cgi/ in about 2 minutes.

BTW. Don't bother checking 2 letter domains because you are right they have
all gone :)
