Hi there,

Does anyone know when a domainname becomes available again? I checked the
following info at Networksolutions, but the domain still isn't availble:

last updated: 2001
Record expires on 02-nov-2000 !!!!

Does anyone know what is mean when a record expires? Does it mean that is
becomes available again? And how lang does it take to get back in the pool?

Thanks!

This is known as domain stockpiling.
The register (illegaly) withholds the domain, contraveneing ICANN
regulations.

Normally, domains are released (From Netsol) after 45 days if the renewal
payment isn't paid. Other registrars release them immediately they become
expired if it hasn't been renewed.
I have seen domains from May 2000 still on Netsol! (Musicb.com)

A factor in this maybe if they create a subdomain/nameserver/DNS entry with
someone other than Netsol, then Netsol can't legally delete the entry (which
would happen if the domain is deleted) - so it sits there stale.

The only domains that seem to be released are low-value domains (however
PC.net came available about a week or two ago)!!!
It was snapped up BLOODY quickly - people compile lists of the expiration of
good ones months in advance, and write scripts that try to register the
domains from about 10 different points (Multiple Attack XML scripts) and
therefore you and I haven't got a chance in hell!

Anyway, Netsol doesn't delete their WHOIS information straight away, so a
domain can expire and be available for registration, and the WHOIS
information still show up in the Netsol WHOIS db!

So can't someone file a complaint with ICANN?

That's not the whole story. There was a domain I was interested in, and I kept
watching Network Solutions to see when it would be released. Well, I found out
the reason it wasn't released was the owner registered it through a different
registar the 2nd time around, and it just took time for the info to filter
through to Network Solutions.

So it IS possible that the domain you want has already been registered somewhere
else.
