I own a name that someone wants to buy.

If they buy that name off me and do something that may affect another
company, can I be held liable?

For example if there was a company called FastCars.Com and they ran a web
site on selling cars quickly, and I owned Fast-Cars.Com and the person I
sold it to setup a website that was a fan club for cars that go fast,

Could I be held responsible, or once I sell are there no comebacks?

No, since the names to the web are not the same. It's like if there was
a company called FastCars.com and you owned a company called
RealFastCars.com.

You can't do if the name is trademarked like Pepsi. You could not do
FastPepsi.com.

There are many cases where the same company name exist in different
states. This comes down to if a name is registered with a county under
a DBA (Doing Business As) or registered as a corporation with the
state. As an example, there are probably several companies across the
USA called ABC Services.
