A few months ago? A while back you stated it's been a year....and your
lack of knowledge about newer changes there suggests thats true. Stick

Why would you visit someplace you already hate so much? You obviously will

spend money at a place that you don't find agreeable or a good value. It
really makes no sense. Of course that's assuming you actually went there,

Fireworks gets old pretty quick. They're nice but I don't need to see

A friend took my girlfriend and myself to see Beauty and the Beast
there at their IMAX theater. That was pretty impressive, but the city
walk thing was no better than an outside mall. The problem with the
designs of public entertainment places is that they come out of
colleges and school rooms, and not the minds of possibility. This is
what made Disneyland magnificent: The renderings were drawn and
painted in the realms of exciting possibility and the projects were
taken there.

Illuminations: Reflections of Earth is AMAZING. It's a pretty
fireworks show that tells the story of the earth all at the same time, so
there's levels for kids (BOOM! with music, not to mention the pyro
barge...), AND levels for adults (the moment humans first walk out of the
cave is moving to me). And (in the best Disney tradition) it pioneered the
pneumatic-launch fireworks technology with the fine-tunable timing on blasts
that makes Believe possible, so there you go.

Believe is one of the most sophisticated pyro shows around - certainly

You must be talking about Florida because USH doesn't do aerial
fireworks. The studio is located too close to very rich homeowners.
Every year I pitch an aerial show and every year they turn me down. The
local City Council is under the thumb of the homeowners.
USH did a few aerial shows while the Japanese owned it - they LOVED to
spend money. Vevendi can't.

How'd we get from fireworks at DLR to USH's tram ride? Just admit it, you love
anything Disney does and can't stand it if someone doesn't like everything Disney
or likes something at another park.

For a nightly fireworks show you're probably right. I wish Disney would crank it
up on the 4th of July to the levels that parks such as Sea World and Universal
Orlando do.

Yep...Universal Orlando. Sea World in both CA and FL also do supurb 4th
of July shows. I have not seen what Knotts or Magic Mountain do.

Sorry I do not get the enough to be considered a true "Fan". But, if by your
definition you are a disney fan, I'll take that as a compliment. As I stated
before, money is tight right now, nor do I have the desire to go to the park
more than once or twice a year. DL is not the only thing that entertains me.
I have not been there for a year, and probably will not go again until the
fall. I am pretty sure that there are people on this board who have not been
in a year as well, or even longer. They belong here as much as I do, and you.
I really think its crappy fireworks. They are tiny little baby shells that
barely blow up. No big booms, no impressive shells that make you go oooh and
ahh. It relies too much on sappy sentiment and not enough on impressive
visuals. Most of the show is low level stuff that is uninteresting.
>Believe is one of the most sophisticated pyro shows around - certainly

I would say that Illuminations and the show at Islands of Adventure are much
more sophisticated than believe. Illuminations is a more perfect choreographed
show with a much wider variety of effects including lazers and water fountains,
live fire effects and that spinning glob thing. Much more sophisticated if you
ask me. And has anyone besides me actualy seen the IOA fireworks show? It was
absolutely incredible!

Where have I EVER SAID I DO NOT LIKE THE PLACE? Oh yeah, thats right, never
said that. You really like to put words in my mouth, don't you?
How is Illuminations supposedly kicking Believes ass(one is a lagoon
show, one is a fireworks show) comparing Disney and USH?
I like the Illuminations music and the show looks cool(Ill 25 sounded
kinda boring though) but ILL is hardly Disney typical and doesn't follow
the Disneyland/Magic Kingdom magical pyro fireworks show format.. with
fountains, globes, fire, multimedia and a totally non Disney soundtrack
it's hardly and unfairly comparable to Believe. ILL looks and sounds
rad.. but lagoon shows-fireworks show comparisons are hardly
comparable. The lagoon shows contain fireworks pyro, but so much more.
One is a stunt show and one is a fireworks show. Bad comparision basis.

Crappy fireworks? That must be why the MK is copying some patterns and
some parts of Beleive for November's Mickey's Birthday fireworks show
changeover(from the tired ages old Fantasy in the Sky). So when and if
most of Believes pyro and choreography is copied for MK will it still
suck?
If the USH nighbors wouldn't freak, if it wasn't a fire area and if the
AQMD fines for fireworks shows weren't so much, I'm sure Uni would give
them a shot. SFMM and Knotts both have seasonal fireworks shows.

Disney Resort hangs on to the aerial displays by the skin of their

them for so long the neighbors don't have a strong legal leg to stand
on. And the Anaheim City Council is - to a degree - pro Disney because
of the tax revenue they generate.

Free country. I've seen Illuminations through the years as well, and

too much time spent with nothing but the ball, but IMO everything
surrounding that more than compensates. :)

Thats mostly true. The current issue is the ash fallout onto
surrounding homes. Thats something it appears Disney will have to
solve. The noise issue has been settled and Disney agreed to cut both
the size of the shells fired as well as the duration of the show.
Thanks Joe... I'll try to check it out if I ever get back to WDW. It sounds

Yep. I see the same type of issue where I live. People bought homes
near an airport and then file suits against the airport for noise.
Another stupid case is people who built homes next to a dairy farm and
now want it shut down cause it smells like a dairy farm.
Hmm... you apparantly don't spend as much time observing the audience as I
do... There are plenty of oohs and aahs at each and every performance I've
seen. In addition to that there is applauding, and cheering at the end and
during the show as well. People cheer for the Mickey Head, and the gasp at the
shots fired off the castle. Tinkerbell's flight is met with sounds of "Oooo
look!" and wide-eyed, open-mouthed expressions from both kids and adults at
various times throughout the show.

As I said before, even if you take out the lazers and the spinnging Globe,
Illuminations is still a much more impressive fireworks show than believe with
more shells and a wider variety of blasts. Same with Fantasy in the Sky (both
the old Disneyland version and the Magic Kingdom florida version). Although it
is not there anymore, sorcery in the sky was better than Believe too.
Disneyland pays its AQMD fines, Disneyland is in *good* with the
Anaheim legislature,
Disneyland takes hundreds of precautions based on wind and area launched
ect.. and noise wise and height of launch wise.
Believe(both of them) are far safer, shot far lower, contain far smaller
and quieter shells than the ages old Fantasy in the Sky.
From my house I can hear both Believes(although the BiHM Nutcracker part
is LOUD here).. the Nutcracker part sounds like the whole FitS used to
sound here.
DL is much quieter than it used to be and the shells are launched much
lower.
I have to go in the back yard to see any fireworks.. during the many
years of FitS the whole show was visible thru my kitchen window.
BTMITS and BiHM are shot much lower, are much quieter and are done far
safer than FitS ever was. Ever..
We used to drive onto Disney property and park along the 5 near Global
Van Lines or just drive to the edge of Ox/Cast Rd and Ball Rd and park
into the Orleander bushes(near where TDA Guest parking is now) and we
would get rained on by smoldering ashes, listen to it rain down on the
car(the nights we weren't outside the car on lawn chairs) and would see
huge still smoldering chunks of paper and ash chunks shells all the
time. It was hardly done 'surounding DL' safe back then. I still have a
chunk of sulfur smelling pyro paper around here somewhere in the
pile/archives.
FitS was launched safely IN DL.. but in the 'very' nearby surrounding
area they didnt care at all.
USH has no way to launch a pyro show and I'm sure definitely do not
wanna pay for the show, for the fines and for the appeasement of the
very vocal neighbors who 'do' yield some power in that neighborhood..
unlike the complainers in that small section of Anaheim who the city
pretty much ignores with Disney benefitting from it. It still doesn't
mean Disneyland pays any less AQMD fines.. those aren't controlled by
Anaheim. AFAIK it's a county thing.
ILL:RoE looks impressive and the fireworks do look cool(I do like the
music too)... but time after time and for the most in Disney magic.. I'd
personally take Believe. (Both of them).
RoE looks cool.. and the classical orchestrations choreographed with
pyro *are* impressively executed... but I fail to see many people as
filled with Disney fireworks Magic or getting as misty as some do, for
ILL as they do for Believe.. with Tinker Bell or Believe with
'snowfall'.
I know you like WDW's shows better than DL and know you like
*everything* about WDW better than DL.. but I personally like both
Believe's better than ILL RoE.
You are only gonna confuse the bobo with logic and facts...
You've never seen Illuminations.
Seen digital vids of ILL, ILL 25 and ILL:RoE and have the soundtracks
for all 3.
I'm happy you love everything at WDW more than DL, but I happen to
prefer the Believes over ILL:RoE.
I don't need to be there .. the digital video looks fine(as it does with
both Believes, when they are shot with a clue).. I'll stick with my
opinion.
>So one day it is really cool and the next day it's tired and getting old?

when Uni does good, whens the last time you liked a Disney product and admitted
it?
I only mention Uni because the cast and crew for Uni attack and constntly bash
the place I like (DL)
There is no video frame on earth, including IMAX that can capture the scope of
Illuminations ROE.
sorry Wally but ive seen the WDW Fantasy in the Sky fireworks on wdwmagic.com
and its not even syncronized that well to the music, its really weak in
comparison to Beleive...
You can admit when Uni does good??? Let's see, that's ONE thing (which you
later slammed as "tired") versus how many negative post? 1 to 1000 perhaps?
And after the tired comment I am not sure I'd even give you the 1. Not a
good ratio for you.
Unlike you I see both good and bad at ALL the parks. Don't even TRY to put
me in some Disney hater category. You will lose. Why just recently I
mentioned in a post to you that I liked EPCOT even though others seem not
to. I love Disney. I love Space Mtn, Pirates, Indy, Bug's Life, CA Soaring,
CA Sceamin', Matterhorn.....the list goes on and on. But unlike you, I am
BALANCED and am willing to point out the flaws of Disney (so that it may be
better) and applaude the accomplishments of non-Disney parks too.

I haven't been on the tram a 1000 times. I do see fireworks in town
here every few weeks, concerts, sports games, races etc. They don't do
much for me. If you like it then fine but quit trying to tell others

. . .Up until I was 6 years old, I lived about 1/2 mile from DL. . .My
grandmother still lives in that house. . .and one of the best things about
it is the view of the fireworks. . .in fact, my mom used to hold that over
my head. . ."if you're not good, then you will not be able to watch the

Again, you've never seen it in person. You haven't felt the explosions. You

While the shells and explosions are huge, my friend and I really weren't

We've been spoiled with the variety of shells used in Believe and the
synchronized music. . . The synchronization with Believe is what makes it
somewhat unique.

I think when the shells are literally coming down on you because they
are so huge(and I've seen them fall right next to me) there is a feeling
of awe. I'm with Wally on this. And the special occasion fireworks
show at MK blows anything Disneyland has ever done away. Literally
fireworks going off around every direction of the MK. 360 degrees of
giant pyro.
Now if you want to say Believe has more "magic" or "Disney spirit" ok.
That's cool. But for shear grandiose fireworks my vote goes to MK. Not
to mention the cookies at MK are worth the admission. DL cookies suck.
M
They are huge in MK.. there are no neighbors.
FitS at DL was also much louder and higher and contained much larger
shells. (Much less, but much larger, louder and launched much higher)
Sometimes the less given away, is a good thing. Sometimes less is more.
Believe has several loud explosions, but until the huge synchronized 3
BIG booms at the beginning of the Tarzan section(song title ??) the show
is really pretty quiet, especially with the loud soundtrack.
Those 3 tightly combined explosions always get oohs and ahhhs and wows.
Sometimes less is more. If the show had the same repeated loud
explosions up until that segment, those 3 big ones/that segment would
never have been as effective as it is.
Davison knew what he was doing.
If BiHM had many huge and loud explosions during 'Silent Night' then
that one huge loud shell at the end of Silent Night(synched with the
Shooting Star and the Castle going dark) then the complete effect
achieved by those 3 simple elements would not get nearly the "Woahs!" i
have on well over a dozen filmed shows.
I'm not slamming FitS in WDW.. it has wonderful music. (I am a DL fan
anyway).. and is is massive and long and nice.. it rocks.
I just think special timed intracacies and sometimes less (in some
places) -is- more in the overall scheme. BTMITS and BiHM really have
tons of little things, special nuances and details in them. Just like
Disneyland. Walt could have built NOS as huge and expansive as the Ryman
art, but Walt also knew sometimes less is more. I think all the Disney
pyro shows I've seen are cool(video or live)(even the boring after 40
times Uncomfortable Pause in the Sky at DL)(and even the incredibley
repetetive Sorcery at MGM).. I think they all look cool.. I'd love to
see a video of the IOA show.. But I really prefer Believe to the others
I have seen.
Anaheim Stadium(after DL blew off for 18 mins on the 4th in 200o) went
off for about 45 mins. It was intense, and L O N G and I got tired of
not only filming it but of watching it. It was just so long and I was so
tired. It was awesome and must have had 5000 shells or more. It wasn't
Believe though. :)
Just my opinion.
Cool. :)

That is just hilarious. Made me chuckle anyway.
I'm not confirming it nor doubting what was quoted, but in the middle of
the Vs fireworks discussion.. that was just funny :)
Maybe not on the website, but it is in real life. It's a Disney Classic and as
much as I love believe, FitS will always hold a place in my heart.
I hope they change the Christmas Believe soon so it's not the WDW 25th
anniversary Believe anymore.

It's not remotely the same. I hate RoE in person.
. . .maybe the humidity in Florida help to keep the cookies in DW moist?
C'mon, so there's actually people at Disneyland sitting on the poopy ground
waiting for either an inferior or superior FIREWORKS show. . .there's
fireworks, people. That's all. Fireworks. . .a good time to get on a ride,
and that's it. Fireworks will never be anything other than fireworks. . .be
it a poodle with a sparkler or a planet blowing up. . .I'm heading for a
short queue. . .where was I? Oh, cookies???? yeah, I'll just leave that
one alone, I guess.

I've never been as big a fan of that one as other shows. I wish I'd
seen Sorcery in the Sky to compare it to everything else... But I always
thought that FitS was a bit too "let's have a generic fireworks show"-ish to
me. I mean, you don't see something like MSEP or Spectro, or Illuminations
(whichever version you prefer) anywhere but at Disney, but fireworks? You
see those all the time. Part of the allure of Believe... to me is the way it
blends the fireworks more seamlessly into the show (you don't see fireworks
timed that well anywhere else yet) and how the show blends the park scenery
and setting into it (more than just Tinkerbell, which has always been the
best part of an MK fireworkd show).

Two Worlds (One Family)... that is one of my favorite parts of the show...
completely ignoring the Tarzan aspect (well, maybe not *completely*) I just
love the intensity of that music.

Very effective.

I definately agree with you on this.

Part of the reason I love this show so much... I'm very a much a subtle, nuancy
type person... Which is to say, I'm also passive-agressive.

Yes, Disneyland is full of those little nuances... During my trips to WDW I
didn't notice as many of those... everything at WDW seems very grandeous..often
times, IMO, TOO grandeous.
This is not to say that I dislike WDW. In fact I love it and can't wait to go
back there again.
There is also something to be said for size. It's great that WDW is so big...
but it's the little things that really count to me, and WDW's Magic Kingdom
doesn't seem to have as much of them as Disneyland does.
(Then again, maybe they are there, and I just didn't take the time to notice
them).

Oh. Oh. Oh. Sorcery in the sky. Incredible. Precursor to Believe! -
started out black and white, representing silent films, then with Fantasia,
burst into glorious Technicolor. Le sigh.

It will always evoke that wonderful week to me - and grate on me that it's
being recycled so sloppily.
yeah I said DCA needs a berm,I said I think DCA needs more rides like Tower
etc....
ok Beleives fireworks are hardly run of the mill fireworks , they are extremly
syncronized to music, has explosions that blow up into hearts and smiley
faces...the comets..come on man,Beleive is way more advanced then any fireworks
show youll see at the races..get real...fireworks dont do much for you but the
ones at USH on 4th of July make you get a hard on,what a surprise!!!!

Been there, done that. Fireworks set to music have been done for
decades. One show that was awesome was the bicentenial fireworks show
set to the live music of the Boston Pops Orchastra in 1976. I have yet
to see anything come close and believe is no wheres near it. Every 4th
of July we have shows here that are set to music with all sorts of
patterns etc. that are FAR larger and longer than believe.....been
there, done that.
its pointless to argue with you, anything Disney does wont impress
you,Universal does fireworks once a year and it blows you away,if Beleieve had
Miami Vice and Bullwinkle music and was at USH ud say it was the best show
around....

And anything Disney does is incredible to you even though others have
done it better for decades. Now you're turning away from facts and
making pure speculative arguments. Whatever.
not even,Beleive is a great show, alot of the technology in Beleive is brand
new technology, its a very innovative show,if you want to dissmiss that fact
then fine,but its a fact

Fireworks set to music has been done far better for many years. FACT.

Where? I would seriously be interested in seeing something like that.
I know that Disney invented and is patenting the air-launched computer-
detonated fireworks system used in Believe to get the timing on things so
exact (they developed it for Illuminations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot
and then used the technology in Believe), and it's been said that the
technology has been licensed to others, but I'd love to see a show with such
great timing with some other technology. Please tell me where such a show
exists, I may have to make a road trip!
Thanks.

Best show I have ever seen was the 1976 bicentennial show synchronized to a live
show by the Boston Pops. Even prior to toady's computers it was done very
effectively way back then. Disney is the only one I know that does this type of
show almost nightly. Other shows are scattered around the country at different
times and concerts, festivals, sports games etc. NYC and Boston both put on
musical fireworks shows on the 4th although I don't know what they have done the
past couple years. My neighbors here in Phoenix own the fireworks company that
puts on the majority of 'event' shows across most of the southwest. My point was
that synchronized fireworks shows are not new and not a Disney invention. They
have been done in grander scales for many many years. Believe certainly isn't a
bad show. It's a fun show but I find fireworks in general a bit boring. What
makes them fun is sitting in a nice park with friends and a few beers rather than
packed like a sardine along main street!
"Better" is a relative term and cannot be used in discussing facts.
I'm not denying that there might be some fireworks shows out there that are
better than Believe... just that you can't say that one thing is better than
another and try to pass it off as a fact.
> "Better" is a relative term and cannot be used in discussing facts.
Headaches are better than brain tumors? Apples are better than oranges?
DLR is better than USH? Hehehe. Sorry.
Still all relative. A headache might not be better than a brain tumor if it's
caused by an annurism...or a bullet.
Heheh. . .yeah, it could go on and on, I guess. Bullet? That's pretty
harsh.
And another fact is that Illuminations was using the technology a year and a
half before Believe was.
