REGARDING LEONARD'S STATEMENT

Eighteen months ago a woman by the name of Delaney Bruce, from Maryland aka Paula Books began to write both Standing Deer and Leonard Peltier. Delaney was invited to the pow wow at Leavenworth and asked by Leonard to join the LPDC committee. She has been the sole input to Leonard on Pat and Marquetta who were both banned from the LPDC office as of January. Pat resigned last July and stepped into the office something like two days a week and only when accompanied by Audra, Leonard's mother until Janurary 23rd, the last day either of them have been permitted there.. She didn't want to place herself in a position that would open these kinds of accusations. Delaney manned the office essentially during this time period. A bookkeeper brought in by Denis, Dawn Hawk***....appeared to be so inept that the independent auditor had to back up and reconcile check statements before he could even audit the books. Moreover, she attempted to take the records with her and erase the hard drive. The hard drive had to be sent out for data recovery. Fed interference? Maybe..She was let go while still on probation, and then turned around and attempted to sue the committee for wrongful firing. All these shenannigans prevented the committee from getting on with a fund raising campaign placed on hold last fall.
The new committee demanded the keys to the office, the evening of January 19th, passwords to websites that never belonged to the committee, keys to Marquetta's house and the car at a confrontation that took place at Marquetta's front door by Russ Redner and Delaney Bruce. She was threatened enough by them to take the kids and flee. I don't know if a restraining order was sought or not, it was discussed.
Problem is the office was in Pat's name... the lease belonged to her. One cannot in good faith simply hand over keys when it leaves not only the man leasing the office confronted with nontenants occupying it, but also Pat with two months of rent left owing on it. The prior committee arranged for a transition with the office owner and paid it off till the end of the term in March and arranged for the new occupants to take over the lease from January...they then picked up the keys from the owner.
The entire prior committee resigned the end of January in toto. Standing Deer offered his resignation dated January 14th. He had joined the committee last June and was surprised at the amount of work and organization that had been put into place..and incredulous at the amount of falsehoods being spread by Delaney. He had seen for himself and tried to tell Leonard he couldn't work with the woman.
Meanwhile, Pius Vinton Smashed Ice was released from the Jameson Annex in South Dakota. Travelled to Kansas where he stayed with Linda Klaassen for a short time before settling in Maryland after a visit to one of the Standing Deer family. He then travelled to Houston Texas to stay with Standing Deer and stabbed him during an argument on January 21st.

THE WEB SITE
Several years ago Bobby Costillo and his son created a website to document and share information with others about Leonard's case. Info was gathered on trials, appeals, news and articles. When other responsibilities became too great and time consuming, Bobby turned the web site over to Dawn Hill to continue the work he began. the site is and always has been operated independently of the LPDC. Committees and committee members have come and gone, sometimes smoothly and sometimes with a great deal of infighting. It was for this reason the web site was created as an independent communication tool and separate from the committee itself. Due to the high caliber and accuracy of the information presented over years, from time to time actual expenses, such as faxes, phone bills to inquire as to documents available for posting, etc were reimbursed. Thousands of hours went into its creation and maintenance from the original one page site Bobby and his son created to the extensive site expanded upon by Dawn Hill. Dawn paid for the domain name and is the owner and registrant and technical contact. Prior to this it was owned by Bobby Costillo.
An agreement however, in the interests of making this transition as smooth as possible was made between Dawn and the webmaster at the new website. He called and expressed this agreement when she was not at home. The phone message Dave Velaquez left was taped, digitalized and is available as an attachment. He agreed to take only the items pertinent to fund raising and sales..copies of Leonard's paintings which had been offered for sale to benefit Leonard's support network, but not to take the web design, nor the graphics she had created. This bargain was abrogated almost immediately by the current site owner who actually had the guts to label them "oldlpdcsitegraphic".
So, who is Delaney Bruce aka Paula Books? she has a wonderful resume (also sent to others for safe keeping). Problem is none of the activist places she said she worked know her. An investigator who checked all background of incoming committee members (remember Douglass Durham??) found in essence she didn't exist for the last ten years. So what hold does she have over Leonard that she has managed to turn him against his committee, his office staff..and Marquetta? And what contact if any did she have with Pius Vinton Smashed Ice who first stayed in Kansas and then made his way to TX via Maryland her home state and stabbed to death the man who was in process of exposing her?

After repeated requests that Leonard add at least one of the committee members to his phone list he replied he didn't need to, he was learning all about what was happening at the office from Delaney .
Enter the second woman..Kathy McCarthy, friend of Delaney Bruce..from Maryland. She also wrote to Leonard and Standing Deer. In letters to Leonard she claimed to be Ojibwe, in letters to others she calls herself white. She spoke to Leonard about marketing his paintings overseas..opening an offshore bank account..and presented him with a contract that not only gives her exclusive right to the income from his paintings, but also sought to make it airtight such that she is the only one who can break it, Leonard can't. Leonard was enticed by her..(?) or was coerced? the contract gives her exclusive rights to how any proceeds are spent..without definition or constraint. his attorneys advised him not to sign it without some precautionary clauses...he signed anyway. (documentation has been distributed for safe keeping).
Under current Patriot Act clauses an offshore bank account to receive and potentially fund activity overseas would guarantee Leonard never saw the light of day. (documentation distributed for safe keeping)
What potential overseas activities? Remember Russ Redner, currently married to a former University of Illinois professor Paula Ostrovsky. You may have seen that panicked mail last June when she along with others were held temporarily by the Israeli Army on their way into Palestine. Well, Russ converted to Muslim some time ago and speaks of things such as "intifidah" and "jihad". (this email also sent to others for safe keeping)
I don't know how much of this Leonard is knowledgable about, nor how much of this has been twisted around and presented to him by Delaney..but if the current *committee* continues along the lines of what they have presented thus far. Leonard will be accused of being mixed up in terrorism and never get out. Or the entire support network in such shambles it takes years he may not have to recover. I smell FEDS.....
Perhaps the problem is more that the prior committee was TOO effective.

Durham came direct to me from Paula Giese (a great lady who walked on
some time ago). Far as I know there is no more specific information
than this about him anywhere.

a further note of importance here...if you go back and read your
Akwesasne Notes, and those of you who remember those times...
the "danger" suggested to us all on a continual basis...and I have
recordings demonstrating this...was that we were led to believe that
the "Leaders" were constantly in danger for their lives.

is getting an answer to all the prayers that people have offered. You

the dysfunction and paranoia that grips some of the activist
communities and in isolation.
To me it's all tragic Paul. And to think you make a living off of this

I have an interview with him, where he says the power of the Pipe
killed Wish Draper, and then took Mike Anderson. Hmmm... That stuff
comes back on you at some point, and if you look beyond the human end
of what has happened to Leonard's organization, and some of the very
good people who have been there, and been used by Leonard, you can see
that the spirits have something to say about things as well. Yes, I
see Anna Mae in front of the spirits, and I hear the end game, is just
beginning.

from 1994 on a search under Leonard Peltier. It was actually posted by
the LPDC after Leonard made a statement in regard to the re-opening
of the Anna Mae Aquash murder case grand jury back in 1994
News From Indian Country had provided its first report re: Annie Mae,
and Ward Churchill to Vernon Bellecourt, and John Trudell from info
and records we had gathered starting in 1992, and ran several articles
about the grand jury probe, ect. and no where had Leonard Peltier's
name been brought up at that time. In fact, we were running all of
our pro-Peltier, he is innocent editorials and providing space for
support letters. Then bang, like a fireworks banner, Leonard and the
LPDC put out a release saying that the investigation was an attempt to
keep him in jail for the rest of life. ---- Hey everybody, don't leave
me out, see me, see me, I am the victim.
So, we started asking questions. Other people started asking
questions. No we don't have anyone saying he held the gun that
executed Annie Mae, though they have said publically and privately (
Robert Robideau, Minnie Two Shoes, Mark and Mickey Aquash, Iris
Thundercloud, Dino Butler, KaMook and others) that it took place,
that Peltier interogated her at Farmington, New Mexico, and some of
these people have said publically, with a gun in her mouth. And there
are some who have tried to hint that he played a greater role in her
execution on site, but NFIC has not found anything that would
substantiate it, to date. We did meet people who say he was very much
aware of her pick-up and subsquent interogation by others in the Rapid
City WKLDOC offices on and around Dec. 12, 1975.
At some time, I began to recognize the 1994 statement as a redirect
shot of smoke and mirrors. Don't ask questions about Annie Mae,
because it might come back and hurt Leonard Peltier, PR campaign. And
you know what....the rest is history.
And we did talk to people, who Annie Mae shared the information with,
that said Annie Mae knew that LP had shot the agents at close range,
and was pointed in the direction of several other people, who Leonard
had bragged too while he was on the run, about shooting the agents.
And we did talk to, as reported in NFIC, people who told us that the
ultimate motive, beside plenty of other bullshit reasons, was what she
knew about LP, and LP was pretty worried about it -- remember in a
recent interview from the book "Of Earth and Elders," Peltier says he
could always smell a rat, he had that kind of sixth sense about
things. Well, sorry, but that was one of his true feelings about Anna
Mae --- his interogation of her in Farmington, never freed her from
that charge.
The end game has just begun, and frankly, looking from the sidelines
--- it will be other AIM people that will bring it to a resolve and
clean it up, who have talked to their families, who have talked to
their friends, who have talked to the movie makers, who have talked to
the press, who have talked to their children. Some of us, are not
alone anymore.
So setting off red flags and banners had an interesting effect, and
his sixth sense is still serving him so well, overseeing the LPDC that
is. By the way, Leonard in his recent interivew with Daniel Yang, says
that printing, or saying any of this stuff publically will be
followed by a lawsuit, in which he has already consulted a lawyer, and
from which, he will one day own News From Indian Country. So, I
continue to say it, and wish him good luck in his lawsuit. At least he
has faith in the judicial process.
