Announcement:

From time to time I get a press release from Little Oppie Cunningham
(LOC) and today, yep, I received one.
"O" has placed Tom Robbins, the Author, on his enlightenment primer
list. It seems The Alchemist of words, Robins has gone largely un-
discovered by the Discordian and "Bob" camps and throughout the years
only the blind have been reading his work.
"O" has reached the conclusion that once read by the majority of both
camps, a mad rush will transpire to claim his words for their own thus
bringing on more bitterness between the camps. This possibility brings
much delight to LOC. If "Bob" reads "Still-Life with Woodpecker and the
ever-increasing conformist of the Discord read "Another Road-Side
Attraction" then all bets are off. The heavens will fall and the two
will either join together in a
last attempt to save their own asses or begin digging much deeper
trenches to fight the
last battle. On, the other hand, if the Discordians begin reading both
books and hoards the material from 'Bob" then the balance of power
will tip and "Bob" will have to take up knitting and shroon consumption
to insure sanity. If "Bob" obtains the material first and hoards said
material then the real possibility exist that Dicordia will be forced
to join forces with the Lion and the Lamb.

"There's a level on which life might be perceived as a joke, on which it
literally is a joke, and this bothers a lot of people. The trickster's
function is to break taboos, create mischief, stir things up. In the
end, the trickster gives people what they really want, some sort of
freedom."

"The ultimate end of any ideology is totalitarianism. Today, the
religious
right and the academic left seem to be in some kind of competition to
brutalize the gene pool. As agents of homogenization, both sides are
committed to institutionalized mediocrity. They want to re-create the
world in their image, and re-create society to fit the contours of
their fears."

I've read Even cowgirls get the bluesm and skinny legs and all.

Both good books, interesting, and involved, definetly enlightening, but
hardly either authoritative or holy.

But it's wholly authorized by "O"! That fact cannot be ignored (or igfnord,

Yes, but they're better written than Illuminatus! - plus RAW even
makes a cameo in some of the more recent books. The best one is
Another Roadside Attraction IMHO. Robbins is definitely one of the
most "Erisian" authors I know of.

Me Idren Zog, I have noted that you have read "cowgirls"and "skinny
legs" but not the two official LOC approved primers . I have wired "O"
on this fact to inquire if anything can be savaged from reading those
two books without the esoteric foundation of " Still-Life with
Woodpecker" and "Another Roadside Attraction", unfortunately, he can
not be reached at this time. "O" is currently in California taking
part in highly secretive experiments with Dr.John C. Lilly M.D.,
Hunter S. Thompson and one of los nuevos videntes from Mexico, Don
Genaro III.
If by chance "O" decides to return my call, I will ask him for advice
on this matter.

From a purely pompous pious standpoint, "woodpecker" and "roadside" are many
times holier than his other books. This is fact not opinion. Of course fact is
opinion, but whatever.
