[You Are Nobody]

hope u like them

f only i could even turn the bitter page, if only i could treat my
broken life as a stage. how old was i when my hope ran out? was i 12,
15, 20 or only a diapered lout?

why cant i dig a path out of this dreadful hole? why do some club me
with a bloody 10-foot pole? i smile and try to be gracious, maybe even
kind, but they laugh and caw and curse, throw me an orange rind.

most folks are living large, tossing checks and cash, while i pick up
pennies and scrounge thru subway trash.

My days are spent living with the roar of a 2-gallon flush,
As time and again my bowels eject, compact, and crush.
I got a degree or two so I could know respect and pride,
Instead I began an unbroken, painful slide.
My classmates would laugh and sneer if they knew my state of mind,
They always knew I had problems, that somehow I was behind.
To them I was a joke, manure clinging to their shoes,
Someone to ignore, who always reeked of booze.
Soon they will gather to celebrate lives full of feats, rich to the
core,
While I stand aside in squalor, my career nailed to despair’s floor.

Don’t be afraid to embrace the night and cold of death
don’t be afraid to give up your last cold fading breath
when the pain is too much to bear, sleep will give relief
you can close your eyes and let oblivion be the thief
in a life that’s wound down to its end ive always tried and failed,
been laughed at, mocked, attacked, and almost lifelong-jailed
now it doesn’t matter the pills will do their work
nobody will weep over the end of a broken, depressed clerk.
