What do you feel that your hobby(ies) bring to your professional work?
What hobby would you like to pursue if you had the time, space,
finances, etc? Why?

I would do more cartooning, and maybe even graphic novel type of work.
I'd love to find a better melding of the digital and multimedia realms
with traditional cartooning/comics (that doesn't mean Flash movies ;-)
). I still have a bit of the itch to do them, but not the time at the
moment.
I'd also get back into watercolors.

Bookbinding
Screen printing

Painting
Sculpture/Carving
Stencil art
My hobbies bring a little to my commercial work, but bring a lot to my
non-commercial work - being the gallery.
As a non-artistic hobby, I would like to take up go-karting if I had the
time & finances. Artistically, I would like to take up pyrography. Why?
Because most hobbies intrigue me and I'm a bit a of a hobby queen.

First, I've never really separated the two along hard, fast lines. A lot of
my hobbies are also learining for my job. and my work is part of my art (or
is that Art).
> what artistic hobbies do my distinguished colleagues here claim?
Photography, digital and analog

My wife is a spectacular quilter and artist and no old lady in a rocking
chair, either. I'll trade pictures of quilts with you sometime. Right now
she is working on an anime quilt for my daughter. She and I are examining
the viability of a retail fabric store as a business here..

More travel. The infinite variety of people and cultures always amazes me.

Flying teaches me patience and persistence. I'm not the most mathematically
inclined person in the world, but if I can master all the math involved in
learning to fly (getting the instrument rating in particular), I can work
through the times when artist's block sets in.

A lot more flying.

As for the pure joy get yourself a ragwind tail dragger that certified fully
acrobatic. Not much math involved but do include a good parachute.

I guess fashion falls into sewing, and photography is also part of work as
well as hobby - so I thought I'd leave that out. But they both are certainly
part of the package!
> (Helen, you up for opening up the Badger some Friday?)
I just opened a (real) gallery & bar so my time is probably not as reliable
for the bADGer lounge, I will however take over the cleaning role if Gem
wants to help open up!

You shouldn't need to have a current medical to fly with an instructor, or
maybe it's something more serious?
I do have plans to take a few taildragger lessons. Finding time for any
flying at all lately has become difficult. Grandkids will do that. I'm
looking forward to the time I can take my grandson up for his first time.

Even though he's pretty excited about planes already at 2, I'm waiting until
he's old enough to remember it.
I know, it's a hard call....

Wow, cool!
Oh, jeez. Where do I start???
OK, well, I sketch, draw and paint -- pencil, colored pencil, pen and
ink, acrylics (and lately I've been dabbling in digital painting), and
I "sculpt" in 3D programs (Lightwave is my application of choice). I
also paint miniatures -- never got into actually playing the "wargames"
they were designed for, though...I just like to paint 'em.
I also write. Mostly short stories, but I'm about 85,000 words into my
first novel and I've outlined a couple of others (don't know if I'll
ever get 'em published -- maybe). I also dabble at screenplays --
again, maybe someday I'll try to take to a level beyond just a "hobby."
I used to play a couple of musical instruments, but that kind of fell
by the wayside. I still occasionally have a melody pop into my head
that I'll take notes on, but I don't really do anything serious with
it.
Less of a "fine" art, but an art nonetheless, I've been practicing
Shotokan Karate for 23 years (that makes me sound really old, but I
started young) and Hapkido for nearly 10 years. And along those lines,
I love to choreograph fights for demonstrations, etc. That and target
practice down at the shooting range are great stess relievers.
This probably doesn't qualify as "art," but it is a creative exercise
-- I write DVD reviews professionally (www.dvddude.net).
Oh, and I cook.
Sometimes I even find time to sleep.
