There are very few midsummer paintings I guess. The heat makes you
lazy and un-focussed.

as a matter of fact, I am loading up the oil palette today! Going to start on
the purple flowers. heh, maybe.. ;)

Funny...as I read that GREAT STORY!!! I was sitting here in the miserable
heat.
I love stories like that Gem! Thanks for sharing!

So how did the painting go the other day?
I'd love to see what your doing. As well as what you find inspirational.
I've been working on a portrait commission in pastel. It's of a straight
couple, the photo was taken 50 years ago and it's a black and white wallet
size........eeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!! me eyes! me eyes!!! But I'm using a
magnifying glass and I've met with some of the members of their family to
get a good sense of the skin tones. The portrait is to be presented as a
fiftieth wedding anniversary gift and is to be a surprise, so meeting the
couple in person is somewhat out of the question. As it progresses a little
further I'll post the results. But in spite of the color challenges and
pains in the eyes it's an awful lot of fun.

Good luck with your portrait. My wife, a quilter of extraordinary talent,
finished a very similar project recently. She took photos from throughout a
couples' 50 years of marriage, including a 50 year old portrait, and printed
them on fabic with an ink jet printer, and then incorporated them into a
quilted wall hanging. It went over beautifully, bringing tears to the
couples' eyes when it was presented as a surprise. I wish you as much
success with your project.

I'm sure they appreciate being publicly classified. Was there some doubt?

Did they tell you they were straight? Did the family discuss it with you? Is
it relevant to your work on the portrait? How does knowing one way or the
other change your approach to the assignment?

LOL... They are so straight they remind me of OZZY AND HARRIET!!! as far as
their sexuality goes... who knows? They've had a few children together, and
although one might be led to think they enjoy hetero sexual sex...because
they had more than one child (I'M JOKING) one never knows. But to clarify, I
meant in this instance *straight* in a nonsexual context.... sorry to
mislead and confuse.

welcome. :) I love that stuff, too. feel free to send/post me your favs, as
well. I was quite addicted to Bradbury, Golding, and Faulkner.

ack. I have a lovely green background completed..... dang clients. just won't
leave ya alone.....

hehe, that's a whole 'nother thread, eh, Tony. :) Inspiration seems to creep up
at, near, from, in the middle of, the oddest things. Recently have been
thumbing through some old art books I found at one of those really GREAT old
book stores, you know the ones I mean, I am certain. :)
Nothing so humbling or soul churning as image after image of some truly
beautiful, stunning work. Klee. Reubens. Klimdt. Cezanne - current fav. and of
course, Pollack. New study, by me, of his drips proves enlighting. the form
-surprising, the rythym - underlying, the motion, all not apparent at first but
slap you silly after a few concentrated moments of viewing. lol.

Your pastel is going to be just fantastic! What a great rewarding piece to work
on.Your research and attention to detail should do you proud, I am sure. :)
I am anxious to see the finished piece!

Good luck with it and I'll post when I get something beyond a backdrop. :|

Sounds fabulous! Any pix of her work?? I love textures/textiles and admire the
quilters who can put together such beautiful spectrums with patterns and
colors.
