Thank you.
Aboout time : )
The perspectives and ratios are dead-on. It's nice to see your work up there Mike.
You are an inspiration.

I am wondering out-loud what other artists are hanging out here?

They may be upgrading, David. Sysop notified us they would add some new modems
soon. Getting too big for their britches. 8D)
Keep trying. They're never off line long.

Thanks D.
I'll add art more often. I need to work on the site design to make it more
friendly for a large amount of artwork.
YOU, my friend are an inspiration. You help keep me going.

Ok I got in finally. Really good stuff in here Mike... I love how well you do faces,
emotions. Very expressive.

I'm trying to read the book "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, by whoever it
is that wrote it... just haven't gotten a chance to really sit down with it yet
though. Gotta do that soon.

This is you?

Thanks for the compliments Dabby.
I believe that author is Betty Edwards. It's been a few years since I read it.
Lots of good ideas in that book.
And yeh, that's me. My son told me The same thing a couple of days ago. I
guess all the running and workouts over the past few months are paying off.
8D).
The face doesn't really look like me. I have a lot of others that do, but I
would get kicked off by my ISP and scolded by all my ADG buddies if I posted
them. They show a 'little' too much for polite company.
Actually Figure 6 does look more like me.

Hi Mike,

I've just gotten some stuff together; been learning Dreamweaver. My
struggle has always been getting people to look like people, but I'd like to
know what you think. Hope everything works :)

Debbie (PS... still working on the home page rollover images; kind of
corny.)

Hi Debbie,
Very nice. I really like the still life with gourds and baskets. I love doing
still life. I have some that I need to photo and scan. So much to do; so
little time.
I like your figure on the wave. Since I clobbered my monitor yesterday, I can't
see the colors correctly, so I can't judge if it's in pastels or watercolor.
The first figure appears to be wet in wet watercolor. I like the effect, I like
unfinished drawings too, for the reason I like GOOD abstracts. They give you a
lot of room to be creative and play with the medium. The horse and rider are
very nice...watercolor?
As a young 'whippersnapper' I was into comic book and paperback hero type
figures. But I really like individual interpretations of the figure now.
I would never presume to give advice on figure drawing. If you can draw, ( and
you obviously can) then observe and practice a lot using live models (or
mirror). Work with all shapes, sizes, complexions and genders (well at least 2
of 'em ).
8D)
Don't worry about the idealized human form. You will improve and in your unique
style. I would love to see more.

Your work is beautiful Mike. Wonderful feel. I especially like the
"Eden Angel". It a shame more artists like you don't put their work up
to be seen.

Hi Mike,

I am behind on my newsgroup reading -- marvelous new drawings! I love seeing
your new work and am inspired by your increased activity. Would you tell me
the approximate size of these? I ask because the bigger I work, the "artier"
I feel. Within limits, of course. Sometimes I end up with quite the big
mess, and it doesn't turn out to be very arty at all, but I FELT like an
artist while I was trying to get it to work :-)

Debbie,

I really like the texture and execution of your pea pod art on the front
page, and it's reappearance in the crystal.

I am especially taken with your "retouch" section. The picture of your mom
speaks volumes. It is so much more than just a photograph of someone. There
is magic there.

The cats are just delicious. Nice cropping, too.

BTW when are we going to see another episode of "Flash Wars" from you? I love
that stuff.
Or is that still on?
Brian has been awfully quiet since his last teaser. Is he still among us?

Hi Mike:
Yes, there is another one in the making. A couple of scenes are completed.
As for Brian, I think he and Fluffy are somewhere in the swamps of Louisiana
chasing down the crooks who stole his "Turnabout" sketches.

Thanks, Mike...

Actually, the only image that didn't originate on the computer is the one called
"Three Horses", which is from an oil I did some years ago. The rest all started in
Painter and went to Photoshop... and back to Painter... and back to Photoshop, and
on and on.

I wonder if it's possible to use photos to practice drawing people from. Probably
not good enough. I'll use the mirror and the hubby. As for improving... I'd better
if I want to stay inspired. It's annoying if you don't feel you're gaining and inch
or two now and then.

Happy holidays,

Debbie

How fascinating that you mentioned the retouch of Mom. I'm in the process of
colorizing it now and will put that up soon. Particularly grateful for your
comment because of her death Nov. 27th.
There was indeed some compassionate magic in her.

The cats are very pleased that you think they're delicious. And they think
everything in the entire kitchen area is, too. :)

Thanks,

Debbie

Hello, ~Zb

I was afraid it looked a little too dark, but then again, that's the
mood. So glad you liked it. These nice comments have cheered up my
holiday season considerably and I'm most grateful. Thanks very much..

Photos work too, Debbie, if they are clear with good lighting and detail. Try
to take your own photos.

Don't talk like that ! I've been torturing and starving myself for months to
take off the inches.

Wow! nice work Debbie. I love the impressionist reclincing figure and the
veggies still life the best. You are very talented.
I'd hang any one of these on my wall.
How long have you been drawing?
Do you have any more to show?

Aw shucks, Dimitri... you are way too kind...
but it sure makes me feel good! I'll try and put up more stuff every month,
depending on my schedule.

Sort of grew up around art because Mom was an artist. Finally went to a 2-year
art school in Florida, (Florida School of the Arts) when I was in my mid-forties.
Talk about feeling ancient... tons of talented teens all around me. Had a great
time. Drawing horses was my passion for many years. Anything to do with horses has
always fascinated me. (Native Dancer, Ruffian, Secretariat, John Henry.... all
those great race horses...)

By the way, amazon.com's Sotheby auction is running a great auction on Secretariat
memorabilia. The bunged-up old tack box I lusted after is up to over $3,000., as
is a bridle and some brushes. (And another "by-the-way", whoever did the .jpg's
for Sotheby's for all the many goodies being offered did a great job.)

Geez, I wish I could hit the lottery!

Thanks again...

Substitute the words 'Dad' for 'Mom' and 'Virginia' for 'Florida.' and I could
have written that paragraph.
I finished my associate's in fine art a couple of years ago. I really enjoyed
returning to college in my forties. I plan to go for some more classes soon. I
appreciate the academic challenge and the creative stimulation from good
professors and from other students.
And I loved drawing horses as a boy. We had a couple of mules back in the late
fifties in Texas. They made pretty good models too. My subjects for horse
drawings were cowboys and wild horses, pony express riders, etc.

And when I was a kid, I'd run through the woods jumping over logs, and actually was
Silver and The Lone Ranger all at once. Sometimes I was Champion... Trigger maybe. I
drew them endlessly I would have been thrilled to own a mule :-)
