The Opossum And The Cat

The opossum must have really been hungry to have risked getting so
close to the cat. That and having a person so close and taking
pictures with a flash.
He gets a lot of different wildlife at his house though, which is
slightly out in the sticks (with an absolutely gorgeous landscape).
One of his nightly visitors is a racoon who checks the bird feeder for
goodies:

My uncle puts different things in it for him to find and eat. He also
has a small assortment of cats and is known to take in strays, which
of course invariably leads to fuckheads dropping off their unwanted
animals into his yard rather than take them to the humane society. I
guess they figure his house is better because they'll know they won't
get euthanized. He *REALLY* spoils his cats too. Like he'll open one
flavor of cat food and then if one of his primary cats won't eat it
he'll open up another flavor for them, sometimes opening up 3 or 4
cans in a row just to feed one cat. At least the other food doesn't
go to waste, he feeds it to his outdoor/stray cats. He believes in
the whole catch, neuter and then release concept and then lets them
live mostly like ferrell cats on his property. So a lot of them are
fairly wild and will only come up to him and basically run away from
anyone else.

I get stared down by the 'coons on occasion. They hang out near here (along
with the skunks and possums) and don't like it when I go for my morning
walk.
It was cute - a few months back, we had a family of skunks in our backyard.
They were all checking out the pool. I went outside and must have suprised
them. They all took off, except for one of the young'ns who didn't notice
me. Eventually, mom came down and herded the little one off.

I have lots of experience with raccoons. We used to have a 3 legged
raccoon hanging around our cottage, we called her "stumpy". She did
pretty well considering her disability and was around for many years.
Every early summer she used to bring her babies around, if you think
raccoons are cute, you should see the babies :-)
