I cannot find a Web site for this company, nor any print info, so I'm
wondering if anyone has actually used this outfit and has any
comments. I particularly wonder if their intrastate rates are any
different than their interstate rates. I wish they had something up
on the 'net in writing, because 8 cents a minute for a casual use
dialaround would be a really good rate, assuming the company behind it
is not some fly-by-night outfit and there are no "hidden" charges.
Unfortunately, I've heard of too many people getting burned on the
"fine print", and I really dislike having nothing other than a silly
TV ad to rely on to determine what is actually being offered.
Please respond here in the newsgroup, since I really don't want to be
spammed by multi-level marketing LD reps (or any other spammer, for
that matter).

Try it for a month and don't pay if they soak you. What have you got
to lose?
The pitch: All US calls under a minute free.
Interstate calls 8 cents/minute at all times (plus
USF fee????).
Monthly fee: free the first month. $4.95 per month
after the first month.
Other calling plans available by registering with
customer service.
I have done no business with this company and
cannot personally attest to the above.
Call the customer service number above
and verify this information and ask about
other "national Access fees" (if any) before using.
I don't know anything about their intrastate
rates.
If you call and learn anything more, please post.
Incidentally, 1016868 is available in Michigan
if 8 cents a minute rates interest you.
See http://www.pt-1.com/qa.htm , but please
call to verify intrastate rates.

otherwise the rate vary from 26.6 cents minute to 11.4 cents a minute..

I was afraid of something like that. It just seemed like the ad was
designed to make the claims hard to understand.

At this point I'm not interested. I was looking for an alternative
for an elderly relative that makes maybe one or two calls a month and
who got hit with MCI's minimum charge last month. I called MCI and
without any hesitation or argument at all, the rep agreed to credit
her for the charge. I asked if this charge might show up on future
bills, and she said no. Obviously, given what I've read here, I'm
thinking it's wise to have a contingency plan available in case the
rep was just saying that to get me off the line (the credit for the
first charge did come through, however, and the next month there were
no MCI calls on the bill and no monthly charge. I'm just waiting to
see what happens on the next bill). I sure don't want to get her
involved with anyone who might start charging $4.95 a month at some
future point!

It's available in Michigan, but not in WEST Michigan, according to the
list of area codes served on their Web site. It looks as though they
haven't made it into the West Michigan or Upper Peninsula LATAs yet.
Specifically, their web site says this:
[Begin quote:]
Q. WHERE IS 101-6868sm AVAILABLE?
A. At present, 101-6868sm service is available in portions of: New
York, New Jersey, California, Michigan, Maryland, Georgia, Florida,
Texas, Rhode Island, Illinois, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware and
Massachusetts.

codes:
201, 203, 205, 212, 213, 214, 215, 217, 248, 254, 256, 267, 301, 302,

Conspicuous by their absence (at least to us Michiganders) are the 616
and 906 area codes. Can you say "cherry picking"? I knew you could
(although actually, most of the cherries grown in Michigan are in the
616 area code, so maybe they're picking some other fruit).
So far, the best deal I've found that works here is 1010297 (see
http://www.1010297.com/index.html). Yes, they are ten cents a minute
rather than eight, but they put their rates (including intrastate and
international, which by the way are really good compared to some other
companies) on their web site - and to me, the best thing is that they
publish just about everything you might want to know about their
service there. For the low number of calls this relative makes, this
would be adequate but I know she will not like losing her 5 cent
Sundays, so I thought maybe an 8 cent all the time plan (with no
monthly charge) might interest her (but somehow I don't think she'll
want to move across the state just to save an extra dime or two on her
typical Sunday call to her sister).
Thanks again for the response.
