Indian government setting new Telecom policy

The Indian government is set to roll out new policies in the telecommunications sector at the start of the second phase of the overhaul in the industry. Sachin Pilot, the Minister of IT and Telecommunications, said on Monday.

The telecom industry in India is generating its revenues more and more from data services and infotainment applications, with SMS and Voice becoming less of a factor. The country also saw exponential growth during the previous and first phase of the telecom revolution with almost 18 million handsets and sim cards issued between 1998 and 2006.

With the new telecom policy set in place and ready to roll out, standardizations have been implemented to create a secure and productive industry that is kept robust by India’s growing middle-class.
