I want to make sure of compatibility and know that calling DTV will
waste my time.

Any helpers?

Thanks

It will control the same units the RC64 will,
if that is what you are asking

The 'R' designation makes it capable of radio frequency control.

Right if the receiver is RF mode, the rc64 is useless, if its in IR
mode, then it will work as well as the rc64r.

You can tell a RF renote by the FCC sticker on back of the remote.

I see that DirecTv offers a "universal" remote with RF and says it can
control up to four components. How does it work with the receiver and TV?
I'd rather have the RF over IR if it can do it all.

My DIRECTV is scheduled to be installed on 9/14. Finally got tired of the
cable bill price increases and some stations not offered in HD.

You set up the remote to operate your Directv DVR (already comes set up for
that). Then you follow the instructions to set up for your TV. When the
DVR and TV are both on you go to system setup, remote and change the setting
from IR to RF. The remote will still operate your TV in regular mode but
it will operate your DVR in RF mode. You don't have to point the remote and
the receiver anymore to change any of the viewing options.

Thanks, sound simple enough.

One of the problems I have with the present IR is that it is the same
frequency as my air conditioner in the family room. If I'm not careful,
turning up the volume also changes the AC temperature setting. No problem
come cooler weather.
