In most cases, channels seem to have been replaced with
similar formats, presumably ones that were originally on
Sirius, even though they now have "XM" in their names.
However, the movie music channel (Cinemagic) has become
a Christmas channel; I don't know whether we'll get it
back in January. :-( And a bunch of channels have just
plain disappeared.
Patty
They completely dropped High Standards, Frank Sinatra type music and
didn't replace it with a similar type station. Very dissapointing.

It'll be back. They do this every year. Usually they take away 3 channels for
Christmas music. I guess since Sirius Classical Pops features (too much) movie
music, they figured Cinemagic could go away for a while.
A lot of DirecTV customers are very unhappy with the changes (due to
Siries and XM becoming one). DirecTV is planning on adding some
channels from another audio service soon. Check out channels 870, 873,
877 and 878. On Wednesday they were listed as DMX channels (a package
that a lot on cable companies carry) but now they are listed as SONC.

Sirius XM replaced High Standards with Siriusly Sinatra. Don't they include
that on DirecTV? I have Dish, and it's there.
Okay. I liked it better when DirecTV used MusicChoice and had
a dedicated holiday channel. It ran nondescript pop music at
other times. But the nifty thing about it was that it covered
*lots* of holidays, not just Christmas. Now we no longer get
St. Pat's Day, Hallowe'en, etc. music. :-( Besides Christmas,
the only other holiday I recall that gets recognized on the
DirecTV XM channels is Independence Day, and I'm not even
sure that any of the channels that program for it do so nonstop
for the entire day.

I'll check out the Pops channel for movie scores--although I
agree with you that there shouldn't be much movie music there.
Maybe an occasional John Williams piece. :-)

What Patty Said.
The loss of MusicChoice was another Murdoch-era atrocity.

You must get more satellites than I do. Those channels don't appear
in my guide.

Though the channel numbers are not the same on DTV, here is a link from the
Sirius website on this year's Holiday musical offerings and the dates they
will be offered: http://www.sirius.com/holiday
Hope this helps--BTW, "Holly" is channel 822 and is already up and running.
For DirecTV there doesn't seem to be a "Classical Pops" channel...

Four "Sonic X" channels...

You may have to enter sonic sonic in the search box.
Note the repetition. The web page search is faulty.
Nope they did not include Sirisusly Sinatra

Yes, there is: 866. But it will go away for a month so they can play even more
Christmas music. (I like the Sirius page where it says they will have
Christmas music sung by the Boston Pops.)
DirecTV channel 866 was "XM Pops", now is "XM Sirius XM Pops".
XM Classics (ch 864) is now XM Symphony Hall.
Note the absence of Sirius in the new name.
I don't see "Classical Pops" in old or new names.
Sirius has a channel 79 named "Sirius XM Pops".
Look here:

and
Then you'll enjoy DirecTV's description of the "Holly" channel
on this page:

Umm, guys, some of the channels changed *formats,* not just names...
Patty
>Some good channels bowed down to Sirius. Guess they have the bigger ones!
Sirius bought XM, despite the popular use of the word "merger" for the
transaction.

That is good. Or maybe they intend to play the soundtrack to the Star Wars
Christmas Special...?
>I don't see "Classical Pops" in old or new names.
Yes, I did make an error in the proper name of the channel, but it's a rather
fine distinction you're trying to make. The Pops channel was always considered
to be part of the classical music offerings, both before and after the channel
changes.
:-)
And the soundtracks to "It's a Wonderful Life," "Holiday Inn,"
"The Santa Clause," etc.? Hey, actually, we may be on to something
here! Unfortunately, I don't think the Sirius/XM folks had that
in mind.

The DirecTV page I cited in the posting you quoted has nothing to do
with whose channels are better. The channel description is a search-
and-replace mistake, plain and simple.
Patty
I find these channels to be too tightly segmented. I can't locate one that
I want to listen to for very long, although if I could do some mix and
match, it might work.
I'd like an XM-shuffle.
Maybe on the coincidental ending of a song on two channels in a selected
group, you would switch to the other channel in your hunt group.

Both XM and Sirius had a channel like that, and both channels got dumped.
I don't think the execs in charge now even listen to radio at all.
