I am very concerned about the Digital Britain Bill, in
particular the recent amendment added in the House of Lords.
This bill should enable Britain to compete in the global Internet
market.
Instead it will severely cripple the Internet industry for years to
come, by introducing a hitherto unprecedented degree of regulation.
This amendment has not been properly debated, and will not address the
copyright issues it is supposed to address.
I refer you to letters in the Financial times, the most important of
which
'[...] signed by representatives of Facebook, Yahoo,
Google and numerous Internet Service Providers says that a
recent amendment to the bill - known as 120A - could have
"unintended consequences which far outweigh any benefits".'
I very much hope that when the bill comes again before the Commons
next week, you will speak again it, in favour of a further bill that
is properly debated.
Yours sincerely,
