"Holiday Wonders" is coming to Beacon Theater, New York from Dec 18 to 26,
2007.
It is a wonderful two and half hours show. Very different!
Beautiful Tang dynasty-inspired costumes and choreography- and some of the
dancers are amazing,and there is a live orchestra too.
Holiday Wonders ( www.holidaywonders.net ) is "a blend of
traditional Western holiday classics with authentic Chinese folk dance,
operatic singing and dazzling pageantry." There will be some classical
ballet and choral performances, and there are always a couple of "dance
dramas" too. These are meant to inspire a deeper understanding of the
consequences of "good and evil" based on ancient and modern Chinese life.
This kind of storytelling was an important part of ancient Chinese culture,
to help people understand how to live a good life. In a time when it seems
most cultural/media focus is on Hollywood stars' battles with drugs, alcohol
and custody rights, it's really refreshing.
