Ask him. He'll look at you like you're crazy and ask you why. Then he'll
insist that he has no problem keeping his clean, and then he'll say
something like, "I cannot imagine not having my foreskin," or "If they want
to take my foreskin away, they're going to have to kill me first."
Most adult men who have circumcisions do so only because they have to for
usually serious medical conditions.
Its not a pleasent operation, and they lose a lot of sensation in their
penis. Many men, in fact (ask a doctor), are psychologically traumatized
from the pain of adult circumcision and the loss of their foreskins. I've
read about this several times in medical journals.
Men who were circumcized as babies have no idea what they are missing.
Which isn't to say that they're not missing out. The same way an adult who
was blind at birth doesn't know what he's missing -- even though he
requires a dog and a cane to get around and can't conceive otherwise.
I don't think most men would undergo a circumcision for THEIR OWN health
and safety, much less to eliminate slight risks of infection to their
female companions.
But, apparently, women have the ultimate say in what body parts men get to
keep -- including the most intimate and personal of body parts.
The risk to infection for women is very, very slight unless the man is a
total slob and doesn't clean himself.
If you're having sex with someone you know, you should discuss cleanliness
with him. And, if you don't know him well, you should insist he use a
condom (for many reasons).
And, if you don't discuss cleanliness with him, and you get an infection,
or you get HIV, or whatever, then its your own fault. Women have to take
some responsiblity, too. Don't say, "Well, some women are going to be too
lazy or too young or too carefree or too stupid to discuss a man's
cleanliness, and they might get an infection, so let's surgically alter all
boys to protect women regardless."
Again, the risks of infection are generally very slight. Many pediatricians
these days are informing their parents that, if they teach their boys how
to clean themselves when they're young, circumcision is totally
unnecessary. Most uncircumcized American men clean themselves with every
shower. Its very easy.
Why cut it off unless absolutely necessary? It isn't like pulling a wisdom
tooth that you really don't need.
Think about it and stop exaggerating the 'need' to circumcize boys.
