Re: anthrax: close all local/corner mailboxes and other non-central
mailbox-type areas like those inside businesses, office buildings and other
institutions, and force people to go INSIDE a post office to send mail where
they will be monitored on surveillance cameras with the data from the
surveillance kept at the local post office level for at least one month
back. It seems to me post offices may already have surveillance equipment
so this may not be hard to implement and would provide some measure of
awareness about possible suspects who are doing this and would make the
terrorists job much more difficult. It would also make normal people
sending mail much more vigilant to people around them in the post office who
may be the wrongdoers (thus potentially creating witnesses).

The inconvenience factor is not important when these people are trying to
shut this whole country down, which is what in my opinion these attacks are
intended to do.

Also ideally make postmarks more accurate - reflecting the exact time of
postmarking and ideally the exact originating post office rather than just
city if not already present.

And what exactly do you think closing all mailboxes will do? Talk about
giving in to the terror. The terrorist are doing exactly what they set out
to do. Causing terror. A few well placed envelopes of Anthrax, and the whole
country is in a panic.

This I agree with.

Unlike you and other people like the Bush administration who choose to take
a "stick your head in the sand" approach to this situation, I do not think
these terrorists are simply sending a relatively harmless few envelopes
trying for maximum media effect. I think that is a "harmlessness" SPIN that
generally always happens when VERY BAD THINGS are happening in society. In
such situations, inevitably there are morons/pundits who choose to placate
themselves and others by telling people EVERYTHING'S OK, sometimes giving
very involved and seemingly well thought-out reasons.

This is almost always in serious cases like the present one B.S. It is a
simple reflection of one very non-productive response to fearfulness.

THIS IS WAR. WAKE UP. The mail distribution system could be turned into a
massive lethal weapon killing people across the country. My suggestion is
not to shut the whole thing down but to do THAT WHICH WILL PREVENT THE
ENTIRE SYSTEM FROM BEING SHUT DOWN. My suggestion is to make the system
more "hardened" against these attacks in a very logical way which creates a
whole variety of positive effects for law enforcement and negative effects
for the terrorists. Your approach is to bet people's lives on what some
morons on TV are saying.
