Nope, whole thing has been posted before, but it is still a very
interesting story. Wayne M. has sent out some inquiries to major papers;
see his thread.
Glad you posted again; I am also more than a little curious about
employees spending the night in their Commerce offices. It is an ugly
and mysterious story, and some reporting would be welcomed.

I was scrolling AP stories and I ran into a developing story that
made my heart rate double, "BODY FOUND AT COMMERCE"
Ron Brown > John Huang > DEAD WOMAN
In this White House you readily assume there could be a
connection. As we all know, the trail of dead bodies behind
Bill Clinton are of legendary proportions. Clinton couldn't have
another one! Could he!
I followed the story for the remainder of the day and into the
night hungry for more details. When I finally got her name I
called a journalist acquaintance familar with death cover-ups
in Washington, in the hope that an intervention early on could
derail it. Nothing has materialized since then.
As we now know, the WISE death has been ZIPPED UP.
No autopsy results -- no nothing.
But there seems to be a keen interest on this NG regarding
her very curious death and all I can add is an analysis done by
Missy Kelly which can be found at :

BODY OF WOMAN FOUND AT COMMERCE
By Kristan Trugman and Gary Sheets
DC homicide detectives are investigating the death of a
48 year old secretary in the Commerce Department whose
NAKED BODY was found yesterday morning in a fourth floor
office.
Barbara Alice Wise of Gambrills, MD was last seen alive
at 4pm Wednesday at work, police said.
They sent her body to the DC Medical Examiner's Office
to determine how she died. A preliminary autopsy indicated
no foul play.
Medical Examiners were waiting for the woman's medical
history before making a final determination in her death.
Her neighbors in the 900 block of Falls Circle Way described
her "as a very sick woman."
'She's at rest now, and she should have some dignity", said
Gerie Shenton, Mrs. Wise's next door neighbor for several years.
"She was a very good person but she kept to herself."
Mrs. Shenton, who would watch the house when Mrs. Wise
went on vacation, said Mrs. Wise had lived in the Gambrills
home since 1971.
Gene Gibson, who lived across the street from Mrs. Wise
until recently, said Mrs. Wise had "some serious problems."
"She was an alcoholic and had been in the hospital a few
times for internal bleeding," said Mrs. Gibson.
Law enforcement sources said Mrs. Wise had been known
previously to sleep in her office overnight. Bruises on her body
were consistent with the ones she could have gotten recently
while having bone marrow work performed.
Another neighbor, Pat Borosky, said Mrs. Wise "looked
like she was ill last week."
Law enforcement sources said Mrs. Wise had apparently
taken off her clothes after defecating on herself. The office door
was locked, Commerce officals said. She reportedly had
worked about 14 years for the department's International Trade
Administration. She was a secretary in the unit.
Anne Luzzato, press secretary for Commerce Secretary
Mickey Kantor, said Mrs. Wise was found about 8am by an
employee.

BRIEF ANALYSIS by Archibald Anger
Whoa baby! Wise wasn't "partially nude" -- she was
totally NAKED, according to this report. And her body was
BRUISED. Of course those bruises "could have come from
bone marrow work" she had recently.
COULD HAVE? Don't they know? Wouldn't even a preliminary
autopsy reveal a cancer severe enough to require bone marrow
work, since the Medical Examiners office was still awaiting
her medical records?
Well, maybe Wise's neighbors spilled the beans about
her bone marrow work. They do seem to know an awful lot
about her medical problems. She must have been a regular
hypochondriacal Chatty Cathy.
But wait! According to her next door neighbor, Wise "kept
to herself". Then who told the neighborhood all about her
illnessnes. (Marsha Scott?, Bruce Lindsey?, Melinda Yee?)
And since when are government employees allowed to
sleep in their offices overnight. Is the Commerce Department
a Motel 6? Or is like Hotel 1600 on Pennsylvania Avenue?
Gees, when I feel sick - I head home. I don't decide to
sleep at work. And how was she going to get out the next
day? Wouldn't the Commerce Building have been locked up
on Thangsgiving ? Did Mrs. Wise usually spend her holidays
at the office too?
And did she really have to strip herself buck naked --
top to bottom -- to clean herself up after defecating? Did she
keep a change of clothes on hand anticipating just such
an accident ?
Or was she going to go home the next day in her birthday
suit? Are the police just surmising this scenario --or do
they have any real evidence that this is actually what
happened?
And the paranoid Clintonoids wonder why there's
"A COMMUNICATION STREAM OF CONSPIRACY
COMMERCE" out here.

I aked the below person at the Washington Post:
----------
>From: Wayne Mann
>To: Marrero, Karen
I asked:
Below is a copy of a story almost three months old. When is
anyone in the media report to us what caused this womans
death?
Thank you.
She replied thus:
that's a good question mr. mann. i'm forwarding your inquiry
to the editor of the metro section.
-karen marrero
I waited 2 weeks and asked her:
Have you been able to find out anything yet? Thank
you.
She replied today:
no, i didn't. feel free to call the metro section and ask.
the general number here is 334 6000.
-karen marrero
At the same time I sent the above first message I also
sent the same message to:
To: Wayne Mann <t...@poboxes.com>
From: Joel Garreau <gar...@well.com>
He responded thus:
thank you for your question. i'm a little confused by it.
this has been reported at great length. what part of web
or print research facilities do you not understand?
joel
I wrote back and said:
Well I'm not the smartest person around but I
thought I knew how to search the web, but apparently I
have not done a good enough job of it, if as you say this
has been reported on in great length. However since that
is the case, would you please just send me a text copy of
a story that lists the cause of death, and why she was at
least partially undressed and had bruises on her body? I
would appreciate your indulgence helping to educate this
person, that is not as good at searching as you feel I
should be.
He then said:
will do. stand by. joel
I have not heard from him after 2 weeks so I asked:
Have you found anything yet? Thank you.
Thank you.
I have not received anything in response. I will admit
after his smart assed reply that I would not hear from him
when he found out that he had made a fool of himself. Below
is a copy of the article I sent them and asked the question
about. Thank you.
Gov't Worker Found Dead
Saturday, November 30, 1996 3:46 am EST
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A Commerce Department employee
was found dead in her fourth-floor office at the agency's
downtown headquarters on Friday.
The body was discovered around 7:45 a.m. by a co-worker
arriving for work, police said.
The woman was identified as Barbara Alice Wise, 48, of
Gambrills, Md. She had worked as a secretary for 14 years at
the
department's International Trade Administration.
Anne Luzzatto, chief spokeswoman for Commerce Secretary
Mickey Kantor, said the unit where she worked provided
analysis
for various industries in studies designed to boost export
sales.
The woman had been last seen alive at Commerce late
Wednesday afternoon, before the agency closed for the
Thanksgiving holiday.
Sgt. Michael Farish, a homicide investigator with District
of
Columbia police, said officers have found no signs of foul
play and
believe that she died of natural causes. But the case
continued to
be investigated as a homicide, he said.
A preliminary autopsy was unable to determine the cause of
death
Friday.
A local television station, WRC, quoted unidentified police
sources as saying that the office where the body was found
was
locked and the body was partially nude.
