Rock drummer Kevin Wilkinson dies

6.46 a.m. ET (1047 GMT) July 23, 1999

LONDON (AP) — Rock drummer Kevin Wilkinson, who played with such groups
as Squeeze and China Crisis, has died. He was 41.

Wilkinson apparently committed suicide in Baydon, England, on Saturday,
The Independent newspaper reported.

Wilkinson played last summer with singer Howard Jones in a popular
1980s revival tour in the United States that also included Culture Club
and Human League. He also recently toured America with the Proclaimers.

Last month, he called on friends in the music business to join him in
the successful KosovAid concert in his hometown of Swindon, England.

Wilkinson began drumming early and, by the late 1970s, was part of the
"art punk'' band Stadium Dogs. Later, he joined China Crisis, appearing
on four of the band's albums.

In 1995, he joined the reformed '70s band Squeeze, playing on the album
"Ridiculous.''

Wilkinson is survived by his wife Marilyn Fitzgerald, two daughters and
a son. Funeral arrangements were not disclosed.
