Does anyone know what the name of the group was who did a song with the
line "pass the doche(?) on the left hand side?". It has bothered me for
some time now.

Thanks.

I know! Hilarious!

Right, Musical Youth did that one. I have the 12" single.

This song is actually a remake. While Musical Youth's is about having
no food, the original is about having no ganja (pot). I don't recall
the original title, though. ("Pass the ________.")

That would be "Pass the Coochie", Jamaican slang for a marijuana pipe.

The original was done by the Mighty Diamonds.

So, what exactly IS a "dutchie"? A bowl to hold food in, or what? Gosh,
I'm glad nobody made a version about having no sex...would that be "Pass
the Hoochie" or "Pass the Booty" or "Pass the Snatchy"?

(being really perverse today, but I'm not usually this bad...must be bored)

That's funny, Trudi! A dutchie is a pan.

Nope, Pass the Dutchie was definitely Musical Youth... what was New
Edition's big hit? Candy Girl or something? And how is their new albumm
selling? (*shudder*)

I heard that too. Isn't a dutchie also a kind of a donut thingy?

Right song, wrong band! That was New Edition, straight of Boston :)
They are also the band that gave Bobby Brown his start.

Wrong--it *was* Musical Youth. 1982, if I remember correctly.

Nope, actually it WAS by Musical Youth, a cover of a Jamaican band's
song 'Pass the Cootchie'.

Beg to differ. It was English band Musical Youth (and incidentally
the first number one for producer Pete Waterman of Stock, Aitken,
Waterman fame).

At the time they said that they changed the lyric (cootchie) to sever
the song's ganga link to dutchie (food pot).
