This was a little infotaining kinda thing run by ABC in the late 70s and
early 80s during their saturday morning lineup. I don't know if it was
part of Schoolhouse Rock, it might have been. It was this weird little
round yellow guy with really skinny legs and cowboy boots, and he sings
with kind of a Texas/western accent. He sings about nutrition stuff and
healthy snacks, and he teaches you how to make easy stuff like ice cube
tray popsicles with orange juice. I distinctly remember one where there
are these wagon wheels that turn into wheels of cheese, and he sings
this song like "when I'm headin' to a hoe-down and I'm feelin' pretty
low down, I hanker for a hunk-a cheese." I also remember something like
"it's a snack that is a winner, and it won't spoil my dinner." My
friends remember this guy too, so I know I'm not going crazy.

No. You're not going crazy...yet. <insert evil laughter here>

Seriously, the little guy you're talking about was Timer. It wasn't part of
Schoolhouse Rock. He did the cheese thingy, and also some other spots about
what kids could do to eat right snack-wise.

I believe his name was Timer, or something like that. (Remember he
always began his spiel with, "Time for Timer!") I can still remember
part of his cheese song:

I hanker for a hunk of--
A slab, a slice, a chunk of--
I hanker for a hunk of--
Cheese!

He also said before he made the snack, "I'm so hungry I could eat a wagon
wheel".
Does anybody remenmber the kid, on the rainy day, who made a fruit thing like
a sundae, but instead of a cherry but a grape on top?

Ahhh the good ol' days...

I wonder what he "hankers" for now that we all know that dairy products
will kill you? "I hanker for a hunk of fat-free imitation cheese like
substance." Just doesn't have the same ring to it.

what you can't even see... don't drown your food"

His name was timer. Before the commercial preceding his little piece, he would pop up saying "Time fo
Timer!!" I know there was more than just the wagon wheel thing. I can remember him showing how things inside
the body worked, navigating a little submarine of sorts in the blood stream.

You know, I was planning on posting this exact same question but you beat
me to it. I was listening to that Schoolhouse Rock Rocks tape and it
started me thinking about this Hankerin for a hunk of cheese guy. I
absolutely loved him.

His name was Timer- he came from the ABC Afterschool Special where a 12
year old (or so) boy's mom is pregnant and he learns all about the body>
its something like "the incredible human journey" I just cant conjure up
the title. In the show, Timer tells the kid and his friends all about
what's going on in mom's body. I believe it won a daytime Emmy. The
character of Timer was extracted from the show & appered in a number of
Sat AM PSA's.

The cheese one, brushing your teeth and one about eating fruit. I
actually found a couple of animation cells from the eating fruit one at a
toy-show recently. I also picked up a FANTASTIC cell of Faith & Hope &
Charity from 3 is a Magic Number at the same show.

That reminds me of something they used to do called POP UP, which I
think was either on ABC or NBC in the early 70s on saturdays. It was
some sort of spelling game, where they would move letters around. It
was just about a minute or so long each time. I wonder if I'm the
only person who remembers becuase no one I know does!

His name was Timer. He was first featured on some sort of TV special
for kids about the human body.

I may be mistaken, but I think the same charachter did those info-thingys
on vegetables. They also had a Fonz-like cool guy called The Chopper who
ate celery and carrots.

Oh, man you forgot the Yahoo! at the end of the quote! This was one of my
