That would have been Jim Stafford singing his song "Wildwood Weed",
may have also sometimed been called "The Wildwood Flower", because I
think it was referred to as the wildwood flower in an early line of the
song. Something to the effect of: "The wildwood flower grew wild on the
farm, and we never knew what it was called..." The song goes on to
describe how the country bumpkin family accidentally discovered
marijuana, and how the feds found out and came to dig it all up and burn
it.

Jim Stafford owns and operated a music theater in the very family
oriented Branson, MO, where he performs regularly. Branson has a
reputation as a pretty straight-laced place, and I think he only touches
on that particular song during his show. I have seen his show in within
the past year or so, and I did have a very good time. He's a first class
performer, and the others in his 2 1/2 hour show were also very
professional.

I remember a song back in the seventies that I believe was spoken word. It
was about this mountain family growing marijuana, and the government came
and dug up all their plants. The last line is "We just waved as they
left...sittin' there on that sack of seeds." There's a bluegrass song
playing in the background.
I also recall some osrt of novelty song called "Sticks and seeds" or
something like that....HELP!

......they cut and they burned and they burned and they cut all my
wildwood flowers down...and another line was.......I looked up and saw
my brother Billy sitting naked on a windmill....

That song was by Jim Stafford. It was called "Wildwood Flower". You
remember him, he also sang another hit called "I Don't Like Spiders And
Snakes".

AHA! That's who sang that song. There's a station here in New Orleans
that still plays that song.
He is from Louisiana after all.

>Yes....."I don't like spiders and snakes and that ain't what it takes to
love me....like I wanna be loved by you"!!!
I love(d) Jim Stafford, he was so great with his music and lyrics....down
to earth. His "Wildwood Flower" song at that time made us
wonder..."hmmm.....wonder how Jimbo knows so much growing the stuff?

The correct title (sorry to be picky, dude) is Wildwood Weed.

Yes, "Spiders & Snakes" and "Wildwood Weed" were by Jim Stafford, who was
one step up from Ray Stevens in goofy country-esque songs. He also did
"My Girl, Bill", which tricks you into believeing it's about a homosexual
relationship until the very end, remember?

BTW, Stafford used to play at our State Fair all the time, and just last
week I saw him on a HEE-HAW rerun!!

The actual titles of the two songs were "Wildwood WEED" and "Spiders and
Snakes"...I have one of those 'golden oldie' 45 RPMs that has those two
songs back-to-back.

Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen did a mostly spoken song
with the last line of all the verses that was sung:

"And I'm down to seeds and stems again, blues."

The song "Twigs and Seeds" was by Jesse Winchester, a Vietnam draft dodger
who fled to Canada until the war ended. Saw him open for the Eagles in the
seventies.
